Signing Belgian keeper Logan Bailly as new #2 apparently. Zaluska is meant to be leaving.
A few Belgian caps to his name so he must be relatively decent. Zaluska is crap anyway and Fasan doesn’t look ready.
Dundee United have accepted the latest Celtic bid for Ciftci. Player now discussing terms and he’ll be eligible for first Champions League qualifying round if it’s completed today.
Ah that’s good news. I hope Pierre is less demanding as an agent than he was as a player. Is it £1.5m - that’s what Chris McLaughlin (or one of those BBC guys) was saying the required fee would be.
Woop. Woop.
Should be a good signing.
Logan Bailly has arrived for talks with his father and his agent. Let’s hope Logan is the guy in the middle.
He’s been touted as genuine competition for Gordon and a potential #1 keeper rather than a token backup. I know you don’t regard goalkeeper as an important position but interesting to see Deila wanting two good ones.
I very much regard goalkeeper as important - I just struggle to find goalkeepers who impress me. Yeah a bit of competition for Gordon is no harm - he could easily regress a bit and injuries are a huge risk obviously. Plus, he’s 32 so bringing in a guy 3 years younger makes a bit of sense.
Martin Odegaard on loan for the season.
I don’t know how much truth is in this. One media outlet reports it (it’s an obvious link and generates hits) and then everyone else picks it up. It doesn’t seem like the usual timing to be sending someone out on loan - those deals tend to happen later on.
Did this need to be completed yesterday? Looks like he’ll be signing today - is that too late for first CL round? (Maybe not that important if he hasn’t been training yet).
Maybe the deadline is today but we should have enough for this Icelandic side either way.
Bailly has signed anyway.
GOALKEEPER, Logan Bailly is the latest player to join the Celtic squad at Paradise after making the move from OH Leuven in his native Belgium.
He moved to Genk in 2002 from the Standard Liege youth side and in season 2006/07 he emerged as their first choice keeper and that sparked a move to German giants, Borussia Munchengladbach the following term.
Bailly also spent time in Switzerland on loan at Celtic’s old European foes, Neuchatel Xamax as well as representing Belgium at every level from Under-16 up to the national side’s senior team and he is delighted at joining the Hoops on a three-year deal.
He said: “It’s a great feeling, it’s big team with a big history and I’m very happy I’m here. When you see Celtic from the outside, you know it is a big team but when you are here you realise that it is a lot bigger.
“My manager told me about the interest but when you hear that a club like Celtic is interested in you, at first you don’t believe it, it’s like a dream to pay for Celtic. When you play football you dream of playing on the big stage.”
Bailly will take up the No.26 shirt this season, the one left on the peg by Craig Gordon who will now sport the No.1 shirt this term, but the Belgian new Bhoy is looking to follow Celtic’s top keeper in other ways as well.
He said on challenging Craig Gordon: “I have a lot of respect for him because he is a great goalkeeper with a lot of experience in a long career so it will be nice to be training with him.
“I’m 29 but I can still learn a lot from him. I think I’m in my prime just now as 29 or 30-years-old is a great age for a goalkeeper.
“As I said, I’m 29 but I hope that my career is starting now and I still have a few years left to play football.”
The keeper has already met his new team-mates up at Lennoxtown and is looking forward to settling in there, and in Scotland after playing in Belgium, Germany and Switzerland.
He said: “I was up at the training complex yesterday morning and I met the players. Every country is different but this is my first time in Scotland and if you are happy in your football then everything else is alright.
“Glasgow looks like a great city and I think I’m going to be very happy here.”
He could try and look a little bit happier to be here in that photo.
It’s Glasgow. It’s a shithole. It would depress anyone.
Big Pierre at Celtic Park to discuss Ciftci’s move.
Ciftci deal done.
Huzzah!
Boyata, Janko, Bailly and Ciftci in already.
Ciftci wearing Adam Matthews’ kit in training this morning:
Celtic, Nadir hoşgeldiniz. Dolu Dolu. Hunlar Nefret.
Lovely interview with Nadir on Celtictv. Seems like a real gentleman.
