Celtic Transfer Window Summer 2021

That’s the man. :+1::ireland::handshake:

Starfelt was watching the Celtic match this evening on his Instagram story. He was eating at a small table and I’m going to suggest it looked quarantinish.

Scrap everything for a solid goalie

Ive been following Celtic since 1990

We have had 2 decent keepers in that time.

David Marshall for a year surely better than what we have

Celtic delighted to welcome Swedish defender Carl Starfelt

Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce that it has reached agreement with FC Rubin Kazan for the transfer of Swedish defender Carl Starfelt, subject to the satisfaction of usual conditions and international clearance. On satisfaction and gaining clearance, Carl will sign on a four-year deal.

A Swedish internationalist, Carl has been with FC Rubin Kazan in Russia since 2019 and previously played with IFK Goteborg.

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou said: “I am really pleased agreement has been reached and we are really looking forward to Carl joining up with the squad. Carl is an experienced player and someone with the attributes to be a real success at Celtic.

"He is a strong, athletic and committed defender and will add quality to our squad. I am sure he will be a player our supporters will welcome warmly and someone who will be really important for us going forward.”

Carl will also be subject to standard quarantine protocols and will join the squad as soon as possible.

Good to see we are still pushing on with another defender

So at the minute it is:

In:
Shaw - £300k
Uroghide -£150k
Abada - £3.5m
Lawal -150k
Furuhashi - £4.6m
Starfelt - £4.5m

Total: £13.2m

Out:
Hendry £1.8m
Bayo £1m
Ajer £13.5m

Total: £16.3m

You’d hope the board will invest 20m in the playing squad exclusive of any proceeds we get from player sales this summer.

Nathan Byrne from Derby and the Jap lad from Man City on loan.

That’s fucking bleak lads.

Man City would surely be open to selling the Jap outright? Byrne is one of the most underwhelming targets you could imagine possible to filling the right back void.

Looks like little else has changed and the board have zero interest in investing money in the first team.

We should have the Frimpong money too.

In the past three seasons we have turned over profits on player sales of

18/19 - £15m
19/20 - £7m
20/21 - £6m

We have tried to plug gaps with expensive loans, the club has been run shambolically. We will nothing by loaning players.

It’s very disappointing really, we don’t seem willing to invest anything in the squad at all, what we spend will only come from what is generated in player sales.

I’m hopeful our spending is nowhere near finished yet.

Itakura is at the Olympics it seems. I think he has a year left on his contract so maybe we can loan with a pre contract or something.

Nathan Byrne though? I know I’m being a bit of a Negative Norman here now but the talks seems to have dried up, Ajer is out the door and he’s funded some of the rebuild. My worry is we will focus from here on in on a few cut price deals and loans as the Ajer money has been used:

We need as priority:

2x RB
1x CB
1x Winger

We also need upgrades in the following positions:
1x GK
1x LB
1x central midfielder

And if Eddy goes we need two new strikers.

A few fringe players could go from here that might take in up to 6-7m.

Guys like Ntcham, Bitton, Bolingoli, Shved.

So for me there is no reason why we shouldn’t be splashing out a minimum of £45m on players sales this summer - add another 20 on that if Edouard goes.

The Anderlecht keeper seems to have fairly randomly gone public with his burning desire to join Celtic. “I would walk to Glasgow to play for an amazing club like them” type quotes. Separately, I take Fulvio’s point that things have gone quiet on the transfer speculation front since the Ajer departure and Starfelt signing. But I’m hoping we’ll just announce a right back and somebody else too without the jocko media knowing in advance. Kinda like what we did with Furuhashi. Come on big bad Dom - give us another signing.

I’m surprised how quiet things have been with Eddy. One weak rumour in recent times linking him to Viera/ Palace. Hes certainly doing us few favours on the pitch recently

I thought he was good on Tuesday. Most of the commentary seems to be of the opinion he didn’t try very hard but I thought he dropped off and linked the play really well. For the first half anyway.
