A 4 year deal.
Which crazy person have we handed over the contracts too.
McCarthy should be a decent signing if he can keep fit but it’s madness handing him that length of contract.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Interesting to see how he’ll manage to hide from the ball in a team with 70% possession every week
Not too happy with the Hart signing tbh
In saying that McCarthy’s injury problems are probably overstated.
He had a horror injury at Everton which kept him out the best part of two seasons, which would be natural in that extent.
Missed a lot of games last season but played in 33 of 38 league games the prior season. Overall he’s played a lot of football in his career. Over 400 games at club level at the age of 30 is a decent return.
They were haggling over the contract for a while. I’m confident rubby Dom has ensured it’s very much incentive/appearance based with a low basic figure.
He doesn’t hide from the ball. His game revolves around breaking the play up and he keeps things nice and simple. Roberto Martinez is a very possession centric manager and he was a huge fan of McCarthy and he was a regular under him both at Everton and Wigan.
Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of two new players – goalkeeper Joe Hart, who joins the club on a three-year deal from Tottenham Hotspur, and midfielder James McCarthy, who has signed a four-year deal, having left his previous club, Crystal Palace, at the end of last season.
Joe Hart, who has been capped 75 times for England, has twice won the English Premier League during 12 years with Manchester City, when he also won the FA Cup and two League Cups. And following a two-year spell with Burnley, the 34-year-old joined Tottenham in 2020.
James McCarthy is a Republic of Ireland internationalist who has been capped 43 times for his country.
James began his career at Hamilton Accies, making his first-team debut for the club at the age of just 15 back in 2006. After three years there, he moved to Wigan Athletic where he helped them to win the FA Cup in 2013 before he moved on to Everton. And after six years at Goodison, the 30-year-old joined Crystal Palace in 2019.
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou said: “I’m delighted that we have signed two top-class players in Joe and James. Both of them have a wealth of experience at both club and international level, and that is something which can only benefit the squad, and I’m looking forward to working with both of them.
“I know our supporters will be well aware of both players, and I’m sure they’ll welcome them to the club and look forward to seeing both of them play for Celtic in the seasons ahead.”
Speaking of his move to Paradise, Joe Hart said: “This is a great moment for me in my career and I am absolutely delighted to be joining a club of Celtic’s stature.
“I know just how big this club is and of the incredible support that it enjoys, and I can’t wait to play in front of the fans at Celtic Park.
“I’m looking forward to meeting up with my new team-mates now and getting to work with the squad and, in particular, the other goalkeepers here.”
And James McCarthy said: “To have signed for Celtic is a brilliant feeling and this is a special day for me and my family.
“I know all about the club, the size of it and all the success it’s enjoyed, particularly in recent years. I’m looking forward to pulling on the Hoops, playing at Paradise and helping the team deliver more success to these amazing fans in the seasons ahead.”
Will Hart play on Thursday?
Now we need two full backs, at least one centre half, a wide player, another midfielder and a striker.
Apparently so. McCarthy staying behind to train in Glasgow, according to Daily Mail.
Yeah McCarthy hasn’t trained so he’s going to be a few weeks away. Hart is a keeper and had done his pre season with Spuds so should be thrown straight in.
Send Barkas out on loan to find himself and hopefully he will do well and build his fee up. I don’t think he’s a bad keeper behind it all, a few mistakes and was made an easy scapegoat by Lennon and he lost his confidence.
Yeah agree with that. He’s better than Bain but no pint having him on the bench. He needs a run of games somewhere to get his confidence back.
Scales and Buta hopefully are close enough. No mention of Lovric recently which is a pity. I thought he looked great.
Wonder if we’ll be back in for Davies at all.
I’d say a striker might depend on Edouard leaving. Wonder if we’ll play Kyogo there at all.
Most importantly, I’d like to see Dom take a few weeks’ annual leave after getting those two over the line. No point in having our CEO exhausted at the start of autumn.
in fairness to him, he joined Celtic during the lockdown, being stuck in Glasgow by yourself in winter, in lockdown must have been tough mentally.
I’d say we are looking at

*Or Scales
** Pending they stay
I was a bit unsure of how Soro would do under Ange but I thought he was excellent at the weekend v Hearts.
That would mean Bitton, Griffiths and Bolingoli for the bin.
Carters Vickers
Scales
Buta
& a decent striker
we need them this week to give Ange a chance
A winger and a left back.
Robbie Brady surely worth a punt.
