Celtic Transfers Summer 2018

There isn’t a sale market though. Celtic can’t get rid of proven SPL players like Scott Allan for any sort of fee. A lad who has been hanging around the fringes of the squad isn’t going to command a fee.

Some might work out if they impress on loan or something but Celtic can already have their pick of young Scottish players when they’ve proven themselves (unless they fuck up the transfer deal like McGinn) so not sure they want to be carrying more squad players around who won’t play much or at all.

Youssouf Mulumbu is incoming according to Celtic social media in the know types.

Underwhelming.

Underwhelming but not bad cover.

Benkovic is also looking likely to join on loan.

What’s the point in a loan. We’ll be right back to square one next year and regressing again. An utterly, utterly pointless endeavour.

Celtic are as well just pack in these days. What’s the point?

Mulumbu is a fairly poor player and 31. I’d rather just stick with Allan as cover.

Agreed on the loan. Not sure it’s even better than nothing.

Not agreed on Mulumbu. Allan can’t cover Scott brown.

Is Mulumbu the former West Brom chap?

Yes.

he was decent a few years back.

Celtic were linked with him a year or two ago for around ÂŁ4m. What have Leicester paid for him? ÂŁ13m or something?

Something like that. They thought they were selling Maguire so brought him in and now don’t need him. Boyata was actually really good tonight (against poor opposition) so we could be better defensively but still week at right back and a loan signing doesn’t do much to help us for next year especially with Boyata on his last year.

So Celtic will end the transfer campaign with the capture of:

2 players who were on loan last season
2 free agents
2 loan signings

Biscuit tin mentality there for all to see.

Yep, unless they surprise everyone today.

Dembele unhappy with his situation and alleging the club are going back on their word.

I’ve some sympathy for him. If there’s a good offer in for him then we should have prepared for that situation and having a disaffected Dembele isn’t going to do much for his resale value.

I can’t believe the complete lack of forward planning and contingencies Celtic have in place. The market has changed completely in the last 2 years and Celtic have shown an unwillingness to move with it.

I’d guess it’s our wages policy that is holding us back. The wages are heavily linked to CL qualification so you’re trying to get people in now on shitty wages with a chance of higher money in future. Nobody wants that.

A smaller squad of players on higher wages should be our target model.

We can afford to pay higher wages.
