Celtic v Midtjylland ☘

Lennon has to go.

Aside from the initial mistake of reappointing him permanently without completing a proper recruitment process, the board leaving him in charge for a further 4/5 months following the inept displays last October and November is one of the reasons for the shambolic state of affairs now.

Is the aussie up to the task? Or is the problem lack of players willing to come to Scotland?

players will go where the money is

The problem is Lawell had no plan for the club, penny pinch when it was a 1 horse race rather than put structures in place. the shit of not buying players in January and then having a rush of last minute signings just before the qualifiers has gone on for many years but peaked this year.

Selling Frimpong and still not having a replacement is bizarre

From what I’ve seen is they haven’t spent anything since Rogers left. It’s a shame they could have buried sevco for years more. Is DOB not backing Celtic anymore?

dont think he ever backed them

the only time they spend big is in the early 2000s

We’ll it’s far too early to make judgements on Ange, but I think he’ll come good. But that’s dependent on him receiving even a modicum of support from the board. It’s not that players won’t come to Scotland (naturally you won’t get some/all of your targets) but these cunts have mismanaged the club on a grand scale.

Allowed player contracts to expire, sold players and never replaced them, relied on short term loans to unsuccessfully plug gaps to the detriment of developing our own players, left in the lurch then when these loans expire, weren’t arsed building from a position of strength and signing new players.

The keeper and back four tonight was a mix of confirmed failures and unproven kids. They received £10mn from Bayer Leverkusen for Frimpong in January and £13.5mn from Brentford for Ajer last week. And the back four was Ralston Welsh Murray and Taylor. They know we need to be ready for these early season qualifiers and we never are. It’s scandalous. Absolutely scandalous.

This is the nadir. Nadir, I tell you.

Dermot Desmond was at the races in Galway today enjoying himself.

Just finished watching that now. As live as you were.

We fairly fell apart as the game went on. Terrific goal from McGregor, couple of big chances for Forrest and then we faded miserably. Soro, Turnbull, Taylor lost all their energy. None of them were playing well in the first place but all became pedestrians towards the end of normal time. Taylor and Turnbull badly culpable for the two goals.

Edouard was really poor all night. I thought he was decent in the first leg but that was a dreadful performance from him.

All in all:

  • Bain isn’t anywhere near good enough as we all know
  • Ralston played really well but we know he’s not good enough
  • Murray, in particular, and Welsh had good games
  • Taylor was brutal. Needs upgrading
  • Soro didn’t have a great game but he was ok. Think we need an alternative too though. Not sure if Shaw will be it given he didn’t come on before we went behind and when Soro was clearly struggling
  • McGregor is comfortably our best player
  • Abada was ok. I like him.
  • Christie was ok. I’ll like him if he signs a new contract.
  • Turnbull was too sloppy on the ball and awful for the second goal.
  • Edouard needs to move on unfortunately
  • Forrest: hmm hope that was just him being rusty given he hasn’t had a pre-season at all.
  • Rogic didn’t have very long but he didn’t really impress at all

Furuhashi and Starfelt are good additions but at least one attacking threat and a right back and someone in midfield. And a keeper. And a left back. And a centre back. And then a replacement for Edouard if he goes.

@gola What’s the story with that Juninho lad who played for Midtjylland against us? Should be not have had his Brazilian suspension carried over and would therefore have been ineligible against us?

cc @gola you cunt.

FIFA only informed UEFA of the international ban yesterday?

No obligation for the player or club to check first?

It all depends on what way UEFA interpret it I guess, if they are any way at fault if theres a fuck up it will be brushed under the carpet. Also given PSV are 3 up after half an hour it makes a lot more sense for UEFA to do just that, unfortunately
