Champions League 2023/24 Round of 32

He might have caught it like Joe Harte. Standing behind his goal line, like.

FYI: Celtic are in the 5.45pm slot this evening away to Lazio.

Best wide players are all absent - two injured (Maeda & Abada) & another suspended (Palma) so the options aren’t great to put it mildly.

Yang has been what he is - young, inexperienced, raw, sometimes erratic, sometimes promising. Forrest is bet, as they say, & Mikey Johnston could possibly feature at some stage.

Could see Rogers rolling out the three centre backs with wing backs set up given that context.

Lazio themselves have been having a poor season & the 95th minute winner at Celtic Park was floodlight robbery but hard to see Celtic repeat the Europa League win from 2019.

Edit: Actually Maeda is injured & suspended.

If Forest or Mikey are on, Celtic are going to get run over.

Either get run over playing those wide players in the usual formation or play a 3-5-2 or 3-4-2-1 yoke where there’s very little game changing pace or dynamism. It’s not ideal really.

I predict he’ll go for the back three with bodies in midfield as it might be more solid & give us a footing in the game. Something like:

Hart;
CCV, Phillips, Scales;
A Johnston, O’Riley, McGregor, Taylor;
Bernardo, Turnbull;
Kyogo.

Not 3-box-3 as Brendan used to call it, which made me laugh, more 5-box-1.

He might surprise by playing Oh & Kyogo together. But the usual 4-3-3 would look very weak defensively & have no running power:

Hart;
Johnston, CCV, Scales, Taylor,
O’Riley, McGregor, Bernardo;
Winger A, Kyogo, Winger B.

(Un)interesting aside, despite missing three wingers…Rocco Vata is still down the pecking order. There’s also the Australian chap Marco Tilio who made his first team debut off the bench at the weekend. Vata just played for the youth team in their win in Rome this afternoon. Good 2-0 win for the young bhoys.

He’s gone for 4-3-3 with Forrest & Yang on the flanks. :grimacing:

Forrest will terrify them.

We all know Celtic are conceding late ya?

Ah ffs

Kyogo gave the ball away cheaply

Celtic tired there, Lazio looked farce ordinary tonight. The ex-Hammers fella that started wide left, wtf happened to him, couldn’t move.

Mikey Johnston is very nice on the ball, but the likes of him kill teams defensively in transitions.

A sickener for Celtic. They’ve had no luck in the three tight games in the group this year. A pity Kyogo’s shot drifted just wide early in the second half.

Awful stuff by Kyogo.

He looks exhausted. Same old story though.

Christ above

Just wasnt the power there to get back. The Lazio playayer actually delayed playing Guendouzi when he should’ve.

Scales will learn a lot from tonight. Very powder puff in front of him.

that was a foul on scales

He’d even have got a free for that in Stadio de Lamberton during his Arklow Town days.

A reasonable display by Celtic. Nothing in the game for 80 minutes & largely untroubled. Celtic were holding the ball comfortably around the back & in the middle third, just circulating it without really creating much. It was Stephen Kennyesque in terms of possession except they were fairly organised as a unit & weren’t giving up much when they lost it. Fair enough call by Rodgers to bring on Oh & open up a bit. It was win or bust & the first goal was a bit unfortunate again with the deflection falling to Immobile. We didn’t have much to bring off the bench & they had him. As @Aertel220 says, three defeats have been pretty tight & small margins but investment & squad building is needed to get on the right side of some of these games. Even to finish third in these groups, although the format is changing.

Penalty to Celtic!

Would you get a few pound for scoring a goal in Europe ?

Edit: he’s has gone to the monitor

That’s hardly a penalty.
