No way were Chelsea comfortably the better side in 08, they dominated the 2nd half but United had much the better of the first half and more than matched Chelsea in extra time.
Good point. United should have been 2 or 3 up before Lampard scored to make it 1.1. Chelsea took control of the 2nd half and in extra time it was a bit more even.
Think I saw somewhere that United had 59% posession in the first half of that game, Cech made two great saves from Tevez and Carrick? Lampard’s equalizer certainly changed the game and Chelsea took over in the second half as Scholes tired in midfield. United had as much of the extra time with Giggs having two clear chances.
Yeah I think I’d agree with that, or almost all of it anyway.
Kroos has scored a few from distance this season and has a bit of a reputation for it so that obviously influenced his decision-making but he took on far too many efforts. He’s a good player and a very good prospect but I thought Mueller was much better.
Cahill did alright, Cole did well on Robben and other than that it was left to Drogba and Cech. They were the winning of the game on their own. Both have been superb in the competition so hard to argue with their success but as you say Bayern should never have given them the opportunity.
would more or less agree with KIB Mans summation too. Chelsea were brutal, and just like all their games in this CL campaign, it was pure luck that got them through, not brilliant defending like some are trying to peddle about. Bayern missed sitters and tore Chelsea apart, it was poor finishing and not good defending that stopped the ball going in. Had someone say to me that Chelsea deserved it because Bayern missed their chances, and I wouldnt agree with that at all. Bayern can have no one to blame only themselves, but to say Chelsea deserve it is horsehite. Credit to Di Matteo and the players for plugging away and getting the end result, but they sure as hell didnt deserve it. The state of the cunts all of them wanting their individual moment to hog the limelight at the end. I’d say the after party was great, each with their own area doing their own thing.
I was too pissed to look back on it analytically. But I thought Ashley Cole was magnificent - he’s been an outstanding footballer for a very long time. I thought it was gamey that Neuer took the third penalty - that could have fucked him up had he missed. But I have a feeling Zonal Marking’s review is spot on to be fair so I’ll happily agree with that.
ClarkeyCat suggested Ashley Cole at left back in a World XI a few years back and he was laughed out of it by you and Rocko. Nice to see you have changed your mind.
He suggested that before the 2006 World Cup - that’s quite a long time ago in football terms. If only others would acknowledge the evidence that’s presented to them over time…like, say, those who decided Lucas Leiva was shit at the start and refuse to change their minds. :guns:
