Looking Good (Part One)
Steve McClaren on the Barry/Gerrard combo: “I had no hesitation in playing them together. They regard each other as good friends and it shows. They play together like good friends. They are good for each other. When you look at teams, you have pairings - and they have to be good pairings.”
Good.
Looking Good (Part Two)
Sir Alex Ferguson on the win over Roma: “I’m pleased because they’re a good team, it was a good game and a good European night. A bit tactical at times but a good result for us.”
Also good.
Quick thoughts on the game. A great win as United didnt play well at all and from all the media Ive been exposed to people were raving about how good Nani was. He was average at best and maybe his layoff for Rooney disguised that fact. Roma should have got a point in the end with the chances they had near the end. Rio was probbably Uniteds best player. Ronaldo didnt do enough I thought.
Christ Scott Brown is shiite. Can he make a tackle without first attempting to cripple the opposition player?
Gattuso is a legend.
Serious trouble for Celtic… that fan should get a serious hiding. I really do wonder about the intelligence levels of people like that. (hope it wasn’t a tfk member…)
Dida should also get a serious box in the head for his delayed reaction and then getting stretchered off with an ice pack on his head. fooking pathetic.
Giles’ legendary comment. “Dida should be charged with bringing the game into disrepute for that reaction. He should also be charged with imitating a goalkeeper”. Quality
Liverpool - Ha Ha
the chelsea team are like a bunch of cartoon characters, you’ve got terry with some sort of mask on and cech with a dopey hat on. didn’t see the dida incident but as soon as i heard it i presumed he made a meal of it.

My thoughts exactly
If I express my thoughts on what happened I’ll be attacked by the majority of the members on here. Shocking stuff from that fan, Denmark v Sweden comes to mind
Another superb European night at Celtic Park. The bhoys are just a team that keeps on giving.
Kudos to Strachan for the fantastic way he set up the team and yet again we almost completely neutralised them as an attacking force.
The revelation that is Scott McDonald continues apace. He was simply sensational all through irrespective of his goal.
The defence was magnificent also. It was great to see Lee Naylor rediscover his form in such a setting. Mick and Caldwell were brilliant.
You see so much at a game that’s impossible to notice on tv but equally there’s certain things you miss. We were oblivious to the lad encroaching onto the pitch, even though we sit behind that goal as we were consumed in the celebrations. An idiotic thing to do and I think Celtic should be forced to fully review their security and stewarding arrangements and possibly make a Stg100 contribution to a charity of Dida’s choice.
What a vicious assault!
Ban the scum!
The attack on Dida by the fan reminds me of the clothesline from hell. A move that was used by Bradshaw, the comparison is scary.
Any news on Dida today?
I heard a rumour that he fell into a coma late last night.
Here’s hoping he makes a full and speedy recovery.
He’s actually in a serious condition. The force of the clothesline actually gave him a fit, he wasnt actually chasing after the guy, the impact made him spasm which meant he took a few steps before collapsing. I hope they catch that guy, vicious.
I think the fooking idiot who ran on the pitch should be banned from Celtic Park for life, forced to pay all Dida’s astromical medical bills and be awarded a season ticket at Ibrox. That’ll teach him.

He could end up paying his funeral costs
That gimp David Tanner from Sky Sports News just tried to grab a word with Dida at Glasgow International Airport. He ran up to him and went, ‘Dida, are you still hurt after the incident last night?’ and Dida replied, 'I don’t speak English. Sorry.'What the fook!
The Milan Vice-President said he expects Dida to be fit for their game this weekend!
There’s posters on various Celtic boards who know the lad that came onto the pitch. Talk is he’s handing himself in later today.
Ancelotti and the Milan officials have been very gracious and sporting in fairness in not pushing for action to be taken. Still can’t believe how stupid the lad was.
So it wasnt a TFK member. Thats good to know
Sky Sports News are reporting that the guy has handed himself in. There’s Celtic supporters queuing up to give him a severe kicking. The Italian press are slaughtering Dida more than the idiocy of the pitch invader and the same applies to most sources I’ve checked. I think we’ll get a considerable fine but no reprimand that will affect the playing side. Hopefully.
More thoughts on last night:
Firstly, Celtic supporters need to calm down regarding that absolute clown who ran on the pitch and tapped Dida’s shoulder. Media outlets by their nature are sensationalist and this morning’s talk of Milan being retrospectively awarded the game and/or Celtic being thrown out of the competition is a load of balls to be honest.
The guy deserves a severe punishment (season ticket at Ibrox perhaps?) but with UEFA’s recent history of fining clubs less than Stg10k for vast sections of their support blatantly singing racist and sectarian songs and making Nazi salutes then I can’t envisage Celtic being fined more than half that.
It’s a shame to talk about that incident first given the smashing result that preceded it. The victory was more down to substance, tactical acumen from the coach and the tremendous workrate and belief of the players than the style we’re generally renowned for. And to do it without so many frontline players made it all the more impressive.
As I said huge kudos to Strachan for the fantastic way he set up the team and yet again we almost completely neutralised them as an attacking force. Our shape when we didn’t have the ball was exceptional and playing 5 in midfield and crowding the space Kaka and Seedorf try to exploit worked a treat. After the early concessions in Donetsk it was imperative to keep them at arm’s length early on and build up our play from there and that’s exactly what we did.
The revelation that is Scott McDonald continues apace. He was simply sensational all through irrespective of his goal. His all round game is top class and he thoroughly deserved his reward at the end after the shift he put in upfront on his own. For a small guy he’s got great strength and his hold up play is excellent.
The defence was magnificent also. As a unit they were strong, purposeful and organised. That’s 3 times we’ve played Milan in 8 months and they’ve hardly got in behind us at all being largely restricted to pot shots from distance and dribbles by Kaka.
All the Dida stuff today shouldn’t at all take from the fact that we deservedly beat the European champions. While being mindful that there’s plenty of football still to be played in the competition and the fallacy of making rash predictions I thoroughly expect Celtic to win the Champions League now. I see Barcelona, Shakhtar Donetsk and Rangers as our main threats.
Ratings:
Boruc - 7: Nothing much to do. Class save from the deflected freekick.com though.
Doumbe - 7.5: Extremely competent. Strong in the tackle, good on the cover and tidy on the ball.
Caldwell - 7.5: Overall he was excellent. Had a couple of hairy moments in the first half but got better and better as things progressed. Superb determination in every challenge and when he moved to right back after Doumbe’s injury he got forward constantly culminating in the shot for the second goal.
McManus - 8: A powerhouse display by the skipper. Never shirked any tackle and made countless blocks and interventions.
Naylor - 8: What an upsurge in form. Driving runs forward, good distribution and made some telling interceptions on the cover. Was really excellent.
McGeady - 6: Lost the ball in some dangerous areas but persevered well. Had a good left foot shot that Dida spilled and prevented Jankulovski’s forays forward all through.
Hartley - 7: Did a wonderful suffocating job on Kaka. Wasn’t assigned a man-to-man role but covered intelligently in the spaces where the Brazilian likes to operate. Could have been more constructive in possession and set pieces were poor - until the corner for the first goal.
Donati - 8: Thought he was fantastic. Took the fight to them from the off and showed great composure on the ball and passed it beautifully. Becoming a key component in our side. MO MO MASSIMO. MO MO MASSIMO. MO MO MASSIMO. MASSIMO DONATI.
Jarosik - 7: Strachan a huge surprise here by giving Jiri his first start since April and he was completely vindicated with the Czech delivering a real team performance. His physical presence was vital as they’re a strongly built side and he won more than his share of headers. Linked up well with Naylor throughout too.
Brown - 7: Surprisingly given the advanced midfield role and delivered a typically all-action display. Scythed down Rino Gattuso which was great to see and showed admirable composure in the build-up to the winner. Will only get better.
McDonald - 9: Incredible performance. Up against a world class back four on his own and gave them all manner of problems. His hold up play, strength and ability to then bring the midfield players into the game in the attacking third was sublime. His work rate and movement off the ball was awesome. More than deserved to get the winner. Brilliant stuff from him.
Milan should be awarded the game, too right they should. Disgraceful scenes last night.
Chanting of any sort should be tolerated no matter what it is, its not hurting anyone. A fan actually going on the pitch and slapping a player is completly out of order.
Ive got to go now so I’ll be back with more insight later.
