Champions League - Round of 16, Second Leg Ties

Yeah, I would have preferred a better country spread in the quarter finals as a follower of a number of European leagues and to see more unique ties. That said, the British media and RTE will be creaming themselves at the prospect of 4 English representatives but it doesn’t really do anything for me. There was absolutely nothing in the Chelsea/Juve and Arsenal/Roma ties, which is a point Pat Dolan’s making, as opposed to ignorant clowns like Dunphy, who doesn’t watch Italian football, savaging the standard nonetheless.

yeah, Chelsea & Arsenal were lucky to get through - urd are a class above anyone else at the moment with the exception of barca

Vucinic - what the fuck?

Worst penalty ever.

Look back through the thread.

I predicted Arsenal to go through.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Think it was 2001 or 2002 when the liverpool fan was stabbed…I am not going to deny that there are a good few thugs who support Leeds and cause trouble…Have seen it first hand muself…

I am not looking for an arguement here, I made a factually correct statement and sledge asked for examples, which I have given…Why do you have to make everything a tit for tat battle ncc…Grow up…

Bottler. No question about it.

One of the most surreal things about tonight was an utter nobody like that Arsenal 'keeper having a go at Totti and trying to play mind games and unsettle him before his penalty.

if you cant see that english fans have been causing trouble over europe for the last 30-40 years then you are a madman - as you said you dont want to get into a tit for tat which is fair enough but for someone to stand up for english hooliganism is shocking

if there’s one side from england you’d want to face in a penalty shootout its arsenal

the romans were lucky they weren’t facing one of the top 4 english teams tonight

Great win for United as they played well below the standard of the first leg against Inter but the sign of Champions is winning when not playing well. I had to switch off Rte after that shit about Ferguson being tactical in Europe and he dosent let the players play to their best. Ferguson or Mike Phelan recoginsed that Inter were going down the right and to combat this put Rooney in there and from a result of that Rooney put a cross in for Ronaldos goal.

Here Ncc do you think that Uefa didnt want Roma getting to the final so the ref was anti roma. The penalty incident for example.

hillarious stuff- never in doubt

great move bringing on montella

that miss by the beast will live long in the memory

i wouldnt agree with that theory but i have no doubt that spainish football people have an inferiority complex with italian football & that they see italain football as dirty & cynical - maybe sublimly that was at the back of the refs mind

Funny stuff alright. BUt in fairness he was hardly expected to bend over and bow and say go on sir, based on your obvious class this should be a doddle for you!

Just watched it in the boozer, who was the work experience lad that Aresnal allowed take the penalty, some showboating from Arsenal in fairness!

I hope the Prince of Cork has better luck at the weekend.

So the English are to blame for every single scurmish and every single riot:rolleyes:…Come on NCC, I am not defending english hooligans at all but there is plenty of scum hooligans invovled in Italian football…

a lot of the time they go away- get fuckin hammered, disrespect the locals & the areas & the locals react , roma is one such place where people react to this
what next - the english wernt to blame for heysel, lansdowne etc etc

Fair enough I just found the peno incident shocking that the ref didnt give it.

Almunia was a coward not looking at any of the Arsenal penalties being taken. Other than the two penos that were saved I have to say the keepers maybe got near two of the next 14 penalties. When it got down that far in the order you felt someone would have to put it over and thats what did happen.

The last eight looks like this:

Manchester United
Liverpool
Chelsea
Arsenal
Barca
Villareal
Bayern
Villareal

The draw is Friday week. At this stage last season United ended up avoiding a potential 2 legged match with any of the English teams. If United got Porto or Villareal I would be happy enough.

To be fair, i lived with a scouser who was in Rome that night (got chased somewhere) and that it was some random scumbag from Rome, and not a Roma supporter who stabbed the Liverpool guy. Thats what the Pool fans maintained anyway. It was miles away from stadium i believe. Out near the airport or somewhere.

probably the termini

What about the riot between the two italian teams fans where a police officer was killed, suppose the English were to blame there as well…Or when a Rome derby had to be cancelled due to rioting, that was their fault too

Roma have a track record, i pointed out a few cases already so there is no point sweeping it under the rug and Italian hooligans have plenty to be ashamed of too…

elaborate on the riot between Juve & lazio fans where the policeman was killed?
dont think hooliganism caused that Rome derby to be cancelled

for all the incidents in Italy- nothing compares to what english fans get up to & have done in the past
