Champions League Round of 42

Izaguirre is after losing the ball some amount

This is woeful

Very unlucky for Johansen, superb stuff:clap:

Thought Johansen, McGregor and Stokes were very good tonight. Kayal, Mulgrew and Berget very good too.

Well controlled performance, Denayer looks a liability a this level though.

Johansen was excellent. Stokes frustrating. Izaguirre was a horrible mess at the back.

Think we were a bit spooked by the Legia match and the vulnerabilities at the end of the first half. Far more conservative in the second half. Let them off the hook a bit, they were there for the taking.

Iā€™m happy so far with the few bob for Forster and Craig Gordon in goal.

Agreed although Gordon looks a bit iffy collecting airborne balls.

Johansen is a lovely player
Kayal did ok as well Rocko, as a defensive midfielder myself i think he held his position well, his attempt at a shot was awful tho.
the belgian lad at the back played very well but is very raw.
virgil is an accident waiting to happen
the keeper did ok, very good shot stopper, Mcgregor was anonymous after the goal
celtic will go thru.
3 israelis on the pitch also, biton, kayal and salilich

McGregor worked really hard and fashioned a good chance for Stokes all by himself.

Think we should have been a bit more daring but 1-1 is a decent result.

Itā€™s obvious Celtic were haunted by their mauling in Warsaw and played this one too conservatively. Their scouts did a poor job sussing Maribor out and vastly over-rated them.

They could yet pay for this in the second leg.

yes , agreed on that from macgregor allright
whatā€™s wrong with Stokes? can he still go to prison in ireland after assaulting that fella in dublin in june?

Fairly pleased with Celtic tonight. I thought Johansen was excellent and our best player (despite denying Van Dijk a goal and missing himself when clean through). We were the better team and were worthy of a win on the night. We still look a little insecure at the back and I was disappointed with Lustig for their goal. We need a quality striker to lead the line - Stokes was distinctly average and we need a threat in behind at this level.

More like

thought celtic knocked the ball around very well in first half but lost their way a bit in second haslfā€¦its to be expected at this time of year with fitness levels not fully up to scratchā€¦
Denayor looks very rawā€¦didnā€™t look like a natural defender at all for the goalā€¦still looks like a good footballer and heā€™ll only get better with games though ā€¦him, Lustig and Izaguirre are better footballers than defenders so celtic will concede a lot of goals ā€¦ Gordon looked very nervy I thoughtā€¦ he needs games to get confidence and concentration up to to scratch as heā€™s been out for so long but think heā€™ll be fineā€¦Virgil is a fookin beastā€¦canā€™t see him being at Celtic much longerā€¦he seems to have got even bigger and strongerā€¦stokes doesnā€™t look quick enough for the way Delia is trying to playā€¦

Lustig is generally solid defensively but has been lacking there so far this season.

Think we badly need another centre back in. Denayer looks like he has talent but heā€™s a long way of being competent at a European level for us. Ambrose scares the shit out of me as well.

Did you notice Ambrose trying to nutmeg a chap inside our own half with around 5 minutes to go and getting dispossessed? He sprinted back and diverted/half blocked yer manā€™s cross out for a corner before accepting a high five from Denayer for his solid defending.

Denayer probably shouldnā€™t have had a nibble for their goal but it was more Lustigā€™s fault for failing to track the guy who ultimately scored.

Denayerā€™s positioning for the goal was shocking. He had left a clear channel for the striker to run into, he basically sent an invitation for Maribor to thread a ball through the defence.

did you see after the match Collins going up to Ambrose and it looked like he was telling him off for that ā€¦
