There is no scientific evidence to suggest that a tongue tie improves a horse’s performance in races. A tongue tie is a bandage or strip of cloth that is tied tightly around the horse’s tongue and may be used to keep the tongue from sliding back and obstructing the airway during exercise or racing.
While some trainers and riders believe that a tongue tie can help a horse to breathe more efficiently and therefore perform better, there is no conclusive evidence to support this claim. In fact, a study conducted by the University of Melbourne found no significant difference in performance between horses that wore tongue ties and those that did not.

It’s a grand excuse for the stewards when a horse improves a stone from nowhere as well.

There’s a small part of me that thinks that if Rachael wins the Gold Cup today there could be a big announcement coming. I hope it’s not the case but heard a few murmurings this week - none of them from the stable though
