I didn’t see him, but going by the old fella he said he was a fine footballer, but nothing compared to O’ Connell, he said he’d have one a couple of All-Stars, but nothing more. Your right about Mickos managerial record though, i forgot about the other counties. But i’m not counting managers anyway.
Why are there women on this list?
DJ Carey for me.
Then Shefflin
O’Driscoll
McGrath
Keane
Tis all opinions and all that, but DJ went missing too many times for me.
So did Shefflin, so did Christy Ring, so did Harrington…
Best hurler I ever seen was DJ.

Jesus i don’t know about Sheflin or Ring. I obviously never saw Christy, but from talking to people and his record he never went missing on the big day, Henry very similar. DJ did in a number of games, All-Ireland semis and finals as well.
he was a very skillful hurler, but he always needed KK to be flying to start doing the spectacular. Henry has pulled KK out of defeats, i can’t recall DJ doing that too often.
Flano was Ireland’s greatest ever 10 pin bowler but has scandalously been left off the list.
Suprised at Keane and McGrath getting on so many top 5s.
McGrath was excellent but he wasn’t magnificent all throughout his career, no matter how talented he was.
Keane was also excellent obviously but I didn’t think he’d be universally acknowledged as top 5 Irish sportspeople of all times. When you consider what the likes of Roche, Delaney etc. won.
Always impossible to compare GAA players to other sports on these lists because there’s no international barometer.
What in the name of all that’s holy is Eddie Macken doing on that list?
Aye, should be Boomerang if anything.
George Best… fucked away a great career, waste of talent could probably have been the greatest.
DJ Carey (hurling)…not even the greatest KK sportsperson.
Eamonn Coghlan (athletics)…good but no Sonia.
Ronnie Delany (athletics)…gold medal you cant argue with, but he didnt dominate his sport like some of our other atheletes did. correct me if im wrong.
Ken Doherty (snooker)… talented bloke but not a sport.
Joey Dunlop (motorcycling)… know nothing of him.
Mike Gibson (rugby)… never seen him but id be surprised if he was better than Driscoll.
John Giles (soccer)… hyped by Dunphy and no doubt he was good but i doubt his greatness.
Padraig Harrington (golf)… playing at the very top level of his sport and also has the medals. a true great.
Kevin Heffernan (gaelic football)… a great character maybe but that 1970s era of Gaelic football is overstated, he is no Mick ODwyer.
Alex Higgins (snooker)… a genius at what he did for a few years but not a sport.
Roy Keane (soccer)… great great player and Irelands greatest soccer player.
Sean Kelly (cycling)… cheating cunt.
Jack Kyle (rugby)… see Mike Gibson.
Eddie Macken (showjumping)… go way to fuck.
Tony McCoy (horse racing)… a tough man but thats as much as i know about him.
Paul McGrath (soccer)… could have been a contender, gifted but a wasted talent.
Barry McGuigan (boxing)… great boxer maybe our greatest but didn’t sustain it.
Aidan O’Brien (horse racing)… sportsperson?
Vincent O’Brien (horse racing)… ditto.
Mick O’Connell (gaelic football)… never saw him.
Christy O’Connor Snr (golf)… never saw him but Harrington has surpassed him in achievement.
Brian O’Driscoll (rugby)… i doubt we have had a better rugby player ever.
Mick O’Dwyer (gaelic football)… the greatest manager i suppose but you need more to be the greatest sportsperson.
Jack O’Shea (gaelic football)… a good footballer alright but shouldnt be on the list.
Sonia O’Sullivan (athletics)… Delaney had the gold alright but he never had to compete against those 3 chinese cunts or that souped up Romanian. Unfortunately, her best years were coincided with drug cheats. She was our greatest athlete.
Mary Peters (athletics)…British i thought.
Christy Ring (hurling)… never saw him but id be surprised if he was better than Shefflin.
Stephen Roche (cycling)… cheating cunt.
Henry Shefflin (hurling)… probably the greatest hurler ever.
Michelle Smith de Bruin (swimming)… cheating cunt.
John Treacy (athletics)… Olympic medal and a fine cross country career but behind Sonia and Coughlan for me.
Harrington for me .

Too right. International superstar. Alas it all fell to pieces when I showed up pissed to a medal presentation. It was all downhill from there.
This sounds like a Blades of Glory?
If Blades of Glory is about a 14 year old child sensation bowler then yeah I suppose its like Blades of Glory.

Imo, Shefflin has had far greater hurlers around him for a longer period than DJ did.
Shefflin was missing v Tipp and v Dublin this year and was often missing against Wexford except for the last couple of years.
Shefflin only came to prominence in his late teens-from 18 onwards (yes this makes his progress all the more remarkable) but DJ was class since he was a nipper.
DJ was often more singled out for hits (tougher hits back in his earlier days) and man marking-keep DJ quiet and you more often than not kept the cats quiet.
You man mark Shefflin and keep him quiet, you have the likes of Brennan, Comerford, Larkin, Power, Cha to get them on fire.
Henry is class but I think DJ shades it. All opinion of course.
DJ was muck. Come off it, Pikeman.
Shite alright
To start with, showjumping should be scratched from the list
Show some respect for Boomerang.

You’re fairly positive on your greatest ever stance for Roy Keane considering you haven’t seen most of the others play.
George Best was clearly a far superior football, and he even won a European Cup.
Why exactly are there question marks around Roche but you give Kelly the benefit of the doubt. Only one of the two tested positive in their career - and it wasn’t the guy from Dublin.
There’s little doubt they were both involved in doping, though both were good enough to achieve as much as they did in a drug-free sport.
christy ring was a simpleton- i think its wrong to have him on the list so we can all make fun of him:mad:

I laughed at that. Reminded me of that Simpsons line - ‘when I was young I dreamed of being a baseball!’
