Having met and conversed with Liam OâNeill recently I cam confirm that the man is a fuckwit of the highest order
I can confirm that a relative of mine formed a similar opinion after a meeting with him
You two are cousins?
Yeah, good one
32 committees.
The GAA needs committees
You can never have enough layers of decision making forums.
Its going to take all 32 of them to sort out the unholy shite Cooney has left the GAA in. Best of luck Liam.
Half-time puck arounds or kick arounds could soon become a thing of the past after eight claims of up to âŹ40,000 each were made against the GAA in the past year when people - mainly children - werenât supervised.
Pat Cahill, chairman of the GAAâs National Health and Safety Committee, recently highlighted the problem in a report presented to Central Council. The report noted that the loss of âŹ320,000 will impact on all GAA clubs when it comes to paying insurance next year.
Westmeath Central Council delegate Seamus O Faolain told a recent county board meeting: "Theyâre really trying to stamp that out (puck arounds and kick arounds) altogether. What was said was âwe have a duty of care to the youngsters and that itâs part of the event managementâ.
âIf youngsters are going to play hurling, it would have to be properly supervised. Youngsters need their mouthguard and helmet if itâs hurling, and if itâs football, they would also need to be properly supervised (i.e. wearing a mouthguard).â

âŹ320,000 is small beans for the association. No need to over react.
8 claims doesnt necessarily mean 8 payouts either.
I would like the know what the total claims are for the year.
Iâd like to know what the injuries claimed for were. And whether these were just conceded or where parental responsibility to supervise their own kids went.
This is like the scaremongering they did over getting claims from people when they were banning the pitch invasions. some makey uppy claims that no one knew or heard about, with no proof or facts on them, thrown out there to say, âoh sure its not our fault, people were making claims against usâ.
if they have 8 claims against them, they should detail them as best as possible within the remits of whats permissable under law.
I would wager the highest number of claims arise from injuries which happened playing matches. It might make sense to ban matches altogether.
they have five year olds wearing gum shields now playing football because of insurance issues
if participation rates keep going the way they are that wont be an issue
Cooney was a disaster as President and the GAA has slowly descended into a nanny state type institution since his reign.
- The fence on Hill 16
- Banning pitch invasions
- Tacky post match All-Ireland celebrations
- Banning the winning minor captain from saying a few words.
Had hoped OâNeill would come in and restore some common sense to the position but he is merely another company man. For a lot of young kids going to matches these days, getting onto the pitch at half time and having a puck around with their dad, grandfather, brother or friends is the highlight of their night.
Would be ridiculous to ban it across the board but then again all these committees and their delegates have expense claims that need funding. Iâve never seen anyone killed or hurt after a post match pitch invasion despite the scaremongering. Likewise Iâve never seen anyone hurt during any half hearted puck around or kick about.
Bring back Sean Kelly or even Jack Boothman to fuck, not perfect but at least they seemed to have a genuine passion for the game and were not intent on sterilising the GAA into a dull, bland organisation. Hector the star of the entertainment show on the day of the hurling semi final was the last straw for me. Fuck off to rugby football for that tacky shite.
Did you see those Clare animals
encroaching onto the pitch in Thurles during injury time of the Under 21 final? The players didnât even get a moment to savour victory with their team-mates before they were swamped by a sea of inbreds. The ban on pitch invasions needs to be rolled out to provincial grounds too.
Oâneill is a bollox plain and simple.
