Has Babs expressed his opinion on this match yet or what.
I’m looking forward to that. I hear he was talking shit about Sheedy as close to the game as Saturday. What a horrible cunt of a man.
He was saying in one of the Sunday tabloids that Sheedy needs to cut out his ‘riverdancing’ on the line and take a leaf out of Cody’s book.
Babs knows the score.
Tony Griffin moved him from edge of the square and ran hard at him in the drawn game in 2004…After the second or third time Hickey literally* cut him in two…
Corbett only touched the ball around three or 4 times yesterday, the same as Eddie Brennan, some difference in the return…
- in the Jamie Redknapp sense
He wasn’t moving at all comfortably yesterday from the off. A shame. The ovation wasn’t much consolation to him.
edit: I’m sure Gerald Hartman wiill provide a full refund
Would pretty much agree with that alright. Great movement throughout.
You’d wonder if Tipp spluttered through the year because their gameplan was always set for a Kilkenny template.
No, but thats a good shot away from putting an asterix on it. Thats what Barry Bonds gets for his hitting record 'cos he was doped up to the nines hitting the ball.
Would you believe a few of us are as well
Training is not an All-Ireland Final. If a bit of rain upset his knee he was clearly in no state to be on the pitch. Cody got it wrong big time and went against all his principles in favour of a charity case.
Kilkenny would have been better off planning without Shefflin and Tennyson (even though he played well) from the start and flinging sentiment out the window. Tyrrell should have started at 6. He’s a natural 6 anyway and Kilkenny should play him there from now on.
Where did I say it was? I was just pointing out that a far better assessor of the game than Barrie said that to his knowledge Shefflin looked fine. Everything pointed to him being fine, they took him at his word. He took a chance on Tennyson and it worked out and it was believed to be a bigger risk. Cody hasn’t turned into a fool overnight despite what people want us to believe today.
Didn’t say he has  But he did go against his principles this time and it was a big error.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see him come back and lead them to another 3 in a row over the next few years.
If Shefflin was as comfortable as we were led to believe then he was right to start him. He didn’t look comfortable though.
carbon copyof the goal Eoin McGrath made for Dan in the Munster final replay.
The best part of Corbetts goal was the ball into Noel McGrath by Gar Ryan. Brilliant delivery.
No it wasn’t
Can’t agree at all Sid. I always thought Cody picked his best team and if Henry Shefflin was only 80-90% fit then I’d imagine he’d still be in Cody’s first 15. Certainly to my, albeit untrained and inexperienced eye he didn’t appear to be moving too badly and laid on a smashing pass for open up the defence for TJ Reid. The rain didn’t upset his knee, he made a balls of trying to gain possession and it seemed the knee pinged on him and that was it.
I’d profer that the ligament was partially torn and maybe yesterday he completely did it. It’s always possible to keep yourself a little less than full tilt in training but in a game like yesterday’s, where every movement was a test of every sinew in the body the knee was found wanting.
Tennyson more than justified his inclusion. Cody can be incredibly loyal at times, he stuck by Ryall in 03 when Setanta was doing untold damage and it looked like it was going to cost them dearly. Hickey would surely be one of Cody’s most trusted warriors so it was no surprise to see him left on when he could easily have been switched, with Tennyson going in there Ryall coming in at 6.
What a fcking game though. That’s quite a trilogy now with last year’s League and All Ireland finals and yesterday’s fare. The 1 in a row merchants might sit back and enjoy themselves like after 91 and 01. I wonder will they be able to replicate that hunger next year? I hope so because organised violence like yesterday is the way forward. As easy as it is to utterly detest the turnip munching, hang sandwich eating, tae swilling boggers that follow Tipperary, they do bring a great atmosphere, colour and indeed rural naiveté to the games, unlike say those boring cunts in Galway who are the MBB of hurling supporters. And the hurlers seem like thoroughly likeable individuals. Especially Larry Corbett. What a fcking legend.
I thought some of Tipperary’s scoring was immense. John O’Brien was quiet but clipped over 2 superb scores when he did actually get his hands on the ball. Brendan Maher’s point after getting upended by Tyrell was magnificiently defiant. He’s some hurler that lad. Corbett’s 3 goals were superb. McGrath’s win and handpass was reminiscent of Bandage back in his hey day as a devastatingly creative 11 or 14. But the run by Corbett was what made it, he had to take off long before the ball arrived. Poetic so it was.

D’ya reckon his shorts were too tight or something? I don’t think he has ever been a naturally athletic looking runner, and it was gas the way the pundits were wetting themselves saying how he had burst onto the field and was showing no ill effects of his knee injury.
And they all noted how Tennyson had grimaced during the warm up yet he came though unscathed.
Amazing score. That’s what they’re all about as a team. The movement was just incredible to watch, just constant rotation in the forwards but with intelligent distribution to match it.
Yeah I’d have to agree here, very little similarity. Corbett’s goal was a much smoother operation and I don’t think one could expect any keeper to save it. Big Dan’s possibly could’ve been saved.
From when he ran back to his position after that first free he clearly wasn’t running comfortably. He contested a high ball shortly after with Pauric Maher and he was only jumping for the sake of it. No conviction in it at all. Don’t know what you’re on about with his unnatural running, he’s always had a very powerful stride.
That’s just my view, I never thought him to be the most athletic looking hurler. And he’s not overly fast either, its the perpetual movement that helps him get away and create space. I’ve read before that he has worked exceptionally hard on his running and speed over the years.
