In Wexico most Jack/ies are christened John but people call them Jack/ie. That’s where I was going with that Sid but sure maybe I was wrong.
Would any of the Tipp Thurles lads be out and out ‘townies’ in the mould of the Waterford city lads for example?
Yes I think I made the point that he wasn’t canvassing for HOTY but the 4th Estate are weirdos that way.
Think it was the puke who pointed out after the Cork game that Maher was one of the best players on the pitch that day. He was pretty exceptional this year alright. He hardly put a foot wrong.
Would still go with Noel McGrath myself. Just think he was awesome this year, the Waterford and Kilkenny games in particular. Almost Shefflin-like the way he pulled the strings in those last two games.
McGrath had a fine game sunday, but he still wasted a few balls including dropping two if not three balls into Ryans hands, the first one was particularly poor
He did alright but even the greatest waste the odd chance.
Ah I’d have no objection whatsoever to either of the Mahers getting YHOTY but McGrath just summed up the new Tipp way of playing for me.
I think Babs Keating may finally have put the final nail in the coffin of his ‘punditry’ career over the weekend. Pathetic insults being hurled at the Tipp setup on Saturday and trying to go back on it yesterday. Ger Gilroy more or less dismissed him as a complete retard on newstalk last night. Won’t stop him ringing up radio shows but they might be more encouraged to tell him to fuck off from now on.
Were people not saying McGrath had been having a quiet year before the Waterford game? He has the potential, ability and vision to go on to be a different class though, he probably already is but could go down as one of the all time greats.
I probably go for Brendan maher myself. Lar has been getting the scores but most of them were from incredible work done further out the field.
HOTY - Lar YHOTY- Brendan
Noel McGrath looked a bit leg-weary earlier in the year, but he really stepped up against Waterford. In fairness he has a lot of milage on the legs for someone so young.
Quiet enough in the 1st half on Sunday, could have passed to Bonnar for the one he kicked wide.
His pass to Corbett was truly exceptional and he did a power of tidying up between centre-field and Tipp’s half-back line in the 2nd half.
Just remembering at one stage Eoin Kelly, Lar Corbett and Noel McGrath all chasing back in the Tipp half-back line near the end. Serious committment shown.
He won two puckouts in a row in the first half for Tipp’s fifth and sixth points and his composure and vision on the ball was incredible. Especially considering the quality of the players he was up against.
Transferred them both to Brendan Maher incidently. The first Maher scored and Jackie Tyrell intervened for the second.
Oi! I never even posted in hat thread Youre mixing me up with someone else. Check the value betting thread I had Tipp on the overs. Anyway I forgive you you’re probably locked congratulations.
I was lucky enough to be in Croke Park on Sunday. It was the greatest atmosphere I’ve witnessed at that or any other stadium. Totally fookin unreal.
The game itself lived up to and exceeded all expectation. Probably analyzed to death at this stage so I’ll just make a few brief observations.
*Despite their great scoreline I think the Tipp defense were the winning of the game. Their workrate and nonstop effort was enough to knock Kilkenny forwards off their stride and frustrated them time and time again. Curran the pick of them imo but they were all immense.
*With 5 to 10 minutes to go the game was still in the melting pot and this was the time to bring on Shefflin. Whether completely fit or not the phychological lift it would have given the KK team might just have been enough. Instead KK looked rudderless and wasted some chances during this period that might really have asked questions of Tipps resolve. Instead Tipp bought on Seamus Callinan and his two points were the straw that broke KKs back.
*Liam Sheedy is an oafish lowlife cunt but has now proved himself as a great manager. Credit where its due
*JJ and Jackie Tyrrell did not deserve to be on the losing team. Without them KK might well have been stuffed. Jackie’s performance on Sunday reminded me of Sylvie Linnane in his prime. I can think of no higher praise a man can recieve on this Earth.
*Congrats to Tipp, brilliant performance, brilliant side and worthy All-
Ireland Champions 2010
*Finally, it was a genuine privilege to be part of the standing ovation that applauded Henry Shefflin off the pitch last Sunday. He is the best hurler I’ve seen in my lifetime and whether he returns or not, the ovation he got from everyone in Croke Park is something that will live long in the memory and in its own way worth as much as any medal. Great man, great moment.

Ooops, sorry wrong newbie…
Harsh, very harsh
No Gola each and every one of the Tipp lads would fit the mould of boys any mother would like to see their daughter bring home. No tats no piercings no bleached hair Two kk lads and one Tipp lad seemed to have Toni and Guy haircuts but that was about it.
No problem with Lar getting the glass hurley on the night but jj was outstanding. Just my opinion like
I actually would have meant it as a compliment as in fellas with a bit of townie street smarts and humour and not out and out boggers.
How could being a townie be a compliment??
Townies are windy sneaky fucks who most likely buckle when the real pressure comes on.
Bandage’s story about when he was younger and how he and his neighbours would gather until up to 12 at night in some estate in Wexford town made me shudder.
Give me round bales any day of the week.
This is IC hurling Appendage, those lads, well alot of them, have a nasty streak, half the time its the reason they outshine seemingly similar standard players.
I wish he’d hit Kieran Murphy a long time ago.
But genuinely, its too regular to be a coincidence.
