Should be a cert actually
Whatâs the take on Gerry Quinn, looking back, in Clare? I always thought he had the talent but didnât apply himself enough for whatever reason.
Ken McGrath mentioned him at the end of his podcast with Daly (Daly brought him up) and referenced the fact that Quinn liked the verbals and the dirty stuff⌠Ken, according to Ken, have him fair warning and then reddened him. Fair enough.
Iâd give him a pass for the incident with Shefflin. The Kilkenny man could give it out but couldnât take it when he got it back. Well able to whinge to the referee then.
They wonât like that, the Kilkenny lads. Oh well.
He was always a stand-out athletically, but he probably would be closer in attitude to a Parkinson type than your average roaster IC man. No shortage of confidence anyway.
Plenty strong and aggressive, was usually earmarked to quieten the blue-chip opposition forward. He would definitely sail close to the wind but I donât really remember him whingeing if he got it back either.
I know Gerry quite well. A nice lad, full of himself and easily led. Not a moaner though. An awful stroke cost him any chance of doing himself justice in an all Ireland final but he never gave out about it. Tony Considine in fairness was the only one to bring it up in the national media at the time.
Case closed
Is he the eye surgeon?
Quinn despite having dirty hands on him was a great bit of stuff. A pure bollocks on the field, tough, athletic, good in the air and mobile and was a very underrated man marker and Daly occasionally moved him back corner back to to man mark danger men and he excelled.
He had a swagger about him and a bit of an ego. His efforts on the field were always honest but he was a lazy enough trainer when it came to conditioning work. Mike Mc famously fucked him off the panel for a few months in 2008 when Quinn ran him up one evening to tell him he couldnât make training as someone crashed into him and his car wasnât drivable only to arrive into training two days later in his car without a dint in it.
Guys the whinging to the referee comment was attributed to Shefflin.
That Parkinson reference sums him up.
Quinn was badly blackguarded by that prick Larry OâGorman after the Shefflin incident. Dint think that shaved ape from Wexford ever appeared on the Sunday game again after it
That was brilliant.
Wasnât it something likeâŚ
Should Gerry Quinn face any action, Larry?
HeâŚheâŚhe should be taken out and shot.
His mother wrote a strongly worded letter to Ken in late 2002.
Correct.
In fairness he deliberately tried to get the butt of his hurl between the bars of Shefflins helmet.
What stroke was that?
Ken McGrath breaking his hand in the closing stages of the 2002 A/I semi final when the game was gone from Waterford.
The gaa tried there best to get him to squeal as to who inflicted the belt and make him the scapegoat afterwards but Quinn kept quiet
I remember now. Ta

Cashman was a bit of a weirdo. The way he wrote like.
