Clare made a couple of changes before throw in and started Senan Dunford and Gearoid Sheedy from Tubber and Ogonnalloe in the full forward line - two bigger men from smaller clubs and tried to add a bit more directness to their more running style - Dunford proceeded to cause rack scoring 1-3 and could have had another 3 or 4 with better decision making. Be interesting to see can he follow it up as he has hurling but looked raw in some of those misses.
Tom OāConnell was excellent for Waterford in the first half scoring three beauties from play - Conneally switched onto him for the second half and they had a great battle with OāConnell adding another and almost getting a goal but Conneally hurled a lot of ball and cut him off at source for the most part. Adam Hogan put the clamps completely on Patrick Fitzgerald. Waterford had three fine goal chances in the second half that another day they may have scored but the Clare defence scrambled well on all three occasions to force the shot and tidy up.
Once Clare carried ball Waterford couldnāt live with them. Jack OāNeill hit three beauties in the second half taking ball off the shoulder running hard. He has a lovely balance about him.
Clareās first win at this level since Ducky Moloney was in charge back in 2015
Not as prominent as the last couple of games. Worked hard and used the ball well when he had it, hit one lovely point late on. They bypassed the half forward line a good bit tonight with the direct approach
Some finish to a poor spectacle. Waterford got it back to 1 - 17 to 16, Clare hit two quick points to push it out to three only for Waterford to goal. Clare then score at the death through Marc OāBrien to win it
