Checked that earlier. 23 pts in norm time
Iâm sure Clare are planning to score a goal Dan. Have they come and said they arenât? Sure Cork had only scored one goal all year before Sunday.
Exactly. And thatâs the point. They need to try. Because they are unlikely to score as many points again. Now your on my wavelength
hey banner lads,
Is Sean Collins still on the panel? He was shaping up like a decent half forward line option a season or two back.

I was wondering about Sean Collins myself.
Another question for the Clare lads: whatever about abandoning the sweeper tactic, did it surprise you that Donnellan was pushed into midfield?
they were at their best working the ball up the field but lots of that was when they had an advantage in players on the field

Think Collins is injured currently, no?

Sean Collins is still on the panel, he last played in the league game against Tipp when we were soundly beaten. He has a serious engine on him but lacks consistency and has fallen down the pecking order. With his father over the senior footballers next year it will be interesting to see if he stays with the hurling
On the Donnellan point - I donât think it was a huge shock. He spent the first 6 months of last year playing there beside Nickey OâConnell and was only moved to centre back after the Waterford game last June
SĂŠan Collins has been injured nearly all season.
any idea what Davy will do in the replay, i still cannot see him starting with the sweeper system, it would be playing into Corks hands, Nash will pick out the spare man in the corks half and he will send in on top of the Clares (weakest link) fullback line where the Cork forwards will inialate them. He probably has to 15 on 15 again and hopefull Cork will have learnt enough to tackle them.
15 on 15 again but Iâm sure Davy will want to play a couple of positional switches to keep ahead of cork.
The problem Cork had the last day was dealing with the Clare pressure, they looked miles off. All the tactics in the world wonât legislate for thatâŚ
Clare will play 15 on 15. As you say Clareâs pressure is very hard to deal with, even Limerick and Galwayâs backs struggled with it while having an extra man back there. The fact that Clare were so sharp to the breaks and winning nearly every ball they put to ground from Pat Kelly puck outs will also mean that it will make JBM think twice about getting his own forwards to do this as we were utterly dominant in this department.
My biggest gripe with management from the weekend was that we used the bench far too late and Cork looked to have the legs on us in the last 10 minutes when they have 4 fairly fresh lads who were up to the pitch of the game. Honan and Galvin should have been withdrawn 10 minutes earlier than they were and Conlonâs shoulder should be far better that it was on Sunday, he didnât look one bit comfortable off his left, the three or four times he hit the ball off his lefthand side in the match his left hand kept slipping off the hurley
Clare had Cork reeling. Cork can only plan to try and get their match ups better the next day and improve their use of possession out of defence because the Clare half back line majorly cleared up on Cork clearances. Cork actually werenât too bad on their own puck outs.
Mullane says Clare have to stay with 15 on 15, Anthony Daly says they have to revert to the sweeper system (which Daly and I still maintain Dublin were well on top with in the second half up til the sending off) which Cork seemed to struggle with. Clare largely dominated with 15 on 15 and will probably stick with it reverting to the sweeper if/when they build up a lead.
I imagine Davy will have a few tweaks though to stop Cork changing the match ups to suit themselves better. Switching Honan and McGrath, or even just playing McGrath closer in support of Honan is an option. As is seeing can they get any joy out of one or two early high balls in to Honan. Kelly out midfield is anotherâŚ
Itâs amazing and a huge advantage how many of the Clare players are almost interchangeable in their ability to play numerous positions.
the reality is the probably donât need toâŚCork do

Spot on, absolutely spot on!
I wouldnât be too hard on management but they were late reacting in my opinion. Weâll be a different animal on the 28th, so will Cork.
They could have beaten us in the last 10 but didnât. Just like Wexford game. We came on a tonne for that
Johnny Ryan will referee the Replay.
Clare will really go to town on Cark in the replay, Davy Fitz has them destroyed with mindgames, they are gone apeshit down there, its an insult to hurling to think that a side as bad as this narly robbed an All Ireland title, the worst side to contest a final since that Wexford team of 1996
Just like before the first final. Clare look to have the better hurlers. Cork are Cork. Itâs as you were.
They did last Sunday. If Clare alter anything they are fucked. It looks like a master stroke from Davy what he did but I donât think it was so tactical as necessary. He did the right thing going man on man and then he got got his players to an incredible pitch.
I donât think heâll change it, I think heâs too cute for that. If he goes with a sweeper Corks points tally will head up to 20 and more. It will also take away from Clareâs attacking. Cork will also know that if they do get a chance sending it into the Clare full back line can yield goals. If Clare play a sweeper and Cork manage to plunge a goal there is only one winner.
More of the same from Clare and work hard on the full back line. Corks intensity is bound to multiply.
