Clare v Waterford - Munster Hurling Semi Final

Waterford won’t be made shit of by any side. They have an excellent set if mobile and physical backs who are strong in the air and they are very hard to ware down. They are a very consistent side and won’t be far off winning the A/I.

Tipp on there day…could expose the system.

Forwards win games at the end of the day, and Tipp have the best on paper.

Most pundits try and play down their county’s chances

Mullane heaps pressure on them

Kilkenny, Tipp, Galway

Lots of questions to be answered
DO we Keep Davey
where are all these good players
why pay for that shite

That American backer must be seething Joe.

Ye won’t be as bad as that again though. Can still see Clare hurling in August.

I cant and i do nt want to going on today

Chin up mate, Conlan wasn’t right…shouldn’t have played by right…McGrath will never miss those frees again.

Ye’ll get to croke park.

Dont do anything foolish there Joe, tis only an aul game.

I think we’ll do it.

It’s bizarre. He bigs Waterford up every chance he gets.

In fairness they are one of the best teams in it so don’t need hyping up. They are incredibly difficult to play against and will give every single opponent they face bucket loads of it.

The test of the managers was the few weeks after the league final. McGrath won that hands down and presented a team ready to win.

Tipp are coming in under the radar and will smash Waterford, purely because they are a much more effective aerial team and don’t have the Munster hangups Clare have.

A poor game today, I’ve seen nothing so far to worry Dublin. The double is very much on gents.

Write off Limerick at your pearl.

True, although I reckon Tipp are more suited to breaking down that appalling shite.

Clare were probably on top on the play in the first half but their heads progressively dropped as the game went on. You sense the cards are there for them now to be better than at any stage since 2013 but they keep disappointing in the championship, and really they still haven’t played a good championship game since 2013.

Shocking second half performance. A few of their leaders from their All-Ireland win like Conor Ryan, Pat Donnellan, John Conlon and Conor McGrath were either not on the pitch, not match fit or woefully out of form. Kelly and Collins are lovely hurlers but they’re not natural leaders. They’ll need McInerney at full back for the rest of the championship. He’s as good as there is when on form. You sense they need to simplify their game a bit - they were at their best in the first half today on the occasions when they let the ball into the inside line, they’re also obsessed with picking the ball up in tight situations when pulling on it might be a better option.

Waterford are far more comfortable in their tactics and Clare didn’t appear to have any sort of plan to get around them, which doesn’t look good for the Clare management. They are like Donegal in 2012 in that they play an unattractive enough game but every game is played on their terms and that’s an automatic advantage. Their tactics suit playing from the front but it’ll be interesting to see what happens if they go behind in a match. They’re excellent in tight, scrum-like situations, fight like dogs and will be hard bet in this championship.

I think they’ll win Munster. Galway are a possible semi-final opponent for them but Galway have never held any fears for them. Don’t think they have enough to beat Kilkenny yet but I doubt they’d lose by much to them.

Waterford are the enemy of the game of hurling. Hurling wasn’t designed to be played by cynical rubby players lined up 13 men behind the ball as a standard formation.
If they win an all Ireland in this fashion they will kill the game. Gaelic football was being kilt by Donegal until Dublin came along with 10 million euros. That won’t happen to hurling, Waterford will murder it and everyone else any good will just dance on its grave.
A curse on Derek McGrath and the pox he has brought to our great game.
