Rui Costa was some operator.
The strike by Figo.
You look at football now and it’s a very poor era compared to 20 years ago.

England and Portugal played out a belter at Euro 2004
I remember watching that game vividly. I can remember thinking to myself about 30 minutes in, this is an all time classic. It was end to end, break neck tempo, Totti pulling the strings and Cannavaro absolutely majestic at the back. Klose and Podolski were like a pair of duracell bunnies up front, never stopped running the channels all night long. Zambrotta like an express train down the right hand side. Perrotta - a seriously underrated player time and time coming from nowhere to pop up in dangerous positions and his understanding with Totti was something else.
The best 90 minute 0-0 draw you’ll ever see.
It’s was insane. My dad, who’d only have a very fleeting interest in football, left out of his seat when the second goal went in
The Del Piero goal was immense.
I remember the Portugal England game so well. I was living in Tooting in London. It was a belter of a summer. We watched this at home with a couple of mates and then decided to go out for a point. The air of latent danger on the streets and in the pubs was palpable. People were furious, seething even. The bars were a fucking mess around tooting. Chairs kicked over and booze spilt everywhere. We’d 2 or 3 beers then fucked off home to our apartment opposite Morleys before we got battered for being irish.
Another that lives in the memory.
When Nedved launched that absolute rocket (4:40 here) I remember Ray Houghton nearly calving on commentary.
That Czech republic team was class.
Great memories of that tournament, went in heavy on Italy from the start, went out in price after drawing with Yanks and I waded in again. This game was something else
It was the Euro 2012 game that Pirlo completely ran the show in and then ruined Joe Hart’s career in the shoot out
With all due respects it was a few seasons of consistently making howlers did for joe Harte’s career
Yes after that game in 2012
Nedved there is a blast from the past.
The term world class is banded about too much but he was truly in that bracket
Agreed
Nedved was a better player than Zidane but never gets the credit he deserved.
He had an unbelievable engine on him, two feet, a shot like a rocket and was so consistent and the ultimate professional.
Zlatan reckoned he’d have been in at training with Juve about 2 hours before everyone else arrived.
He is running the show still at juve he is a great director of football too.
He was wasted staying in the Italian league he could of easily followed zidane to madrid
