They were beaten 0-7 to 0-4 by Pearse Og from Armagh City in the Quarter Finals of the Armagh championship.
malahide sylvesters wom the championship semi final - looks like the money spent in paying turfmunchers to play for them ahead of locals is paying dividends
Laois SHC and SFC have both reached the Quarter Final stages.
Laois SHC Quarter Finals
Camross v Ballinakill
Clough Ballacolla v St Fintans Mountrath
Portlaoise v The Harps
Rathdowney Errill v Castletown
Hurling Quarter are up first this weekend. Castletown are the surprise packet in a way here, they’re an aging team, but a huge kick from Paul and David Cuddy last time out saw them beat Portlaoise who were already qualified, and knock out last years IHC winners Colt who had a great first year up for such a small club.
Camross v Ballinakill
Camross are missing Zane Keenan in a big way. Still a very decent side, and a serious threat in this Cship. Ballinakill are there or thereabouts every year, but don’t think they have enough in them to knock Camross. If there’s to be a shock in this round though, it might be here, but I’m going with Camross
Clough Ballacolla v St Fintans Mountrath
Clough/Ballacolla, all the way. Great underage work being done there and they’ll have far too much for Mountrath.
Portlaoise v The Harps
Tricky one, depends on which Portlaoise side turns up really. Cahir Healy’s return from the States will be a big boost to the Town side and should be enough to see them through.
Rathdowney Errill v Castletown
Rathdowney/Errill, all the way.
Laois SFC Quarter Finals
Last weekend saw the completion of the SFC losers group stages, and has thrown up some interesting quarter finals. Its all pretty irrelevant mind you, because it’ll take a miracle for anyone to beat Portlaoise. They’re head and shoulders above everyone else in Laois Club football at the moment and while its a clich, they’ll only be beaten by themselves.
St Josephs v The Heath
Two former kingpins of Laois football but are also rans of recent years. The Heath will be on a high after winning the Junior Football Championship and League double in the last 7 days. A Club going in the right direction. Joes on the other hand seem to just tumble from one injury crisis to the next. Still depending on Garvan, Kelly and Higgins and truth be told all are walking wrecks. The Heath for me.
Portlaoise v Portarlington
Battle of the towns, but thats where the comparision ends. Portarlington will be on a high after winning the MFC a week ago, but they’ll need these players to mature very quickly and already are depending on one or two of them. Great work being done at underage level, but Portlaoise will win this with 8 to spare.
Arles Kilcruise v Mountmellick
Mountmellick were manys hope to upset Portlaoise this year (the other is down below) but just seem to be a team of hulking beasts with little concentration on football skills. They have the footballers, less time in the gym and more concetration on the skills might be in order. Kilcruise are motoring nicely this year, the more liked of the two Arles’ in recent times, I fancy them to take Mountmellick in this game if they can get a foothold through Kevin Meaney in midfield.
Arles Killeen v Emo
Killeen, (or Killeenski as they’ve become known due to their recruitment drives of recent times) will have 2 suspended players back for this game which should release Kingston back to his mosst dangerous position of full forward. Emo are the form team in Laois this year, even if they are coming from Div 2 as I’ve said before. Unbeaten all year, and this is a game they will relish. Emo to cause an upset here.
that was the junior B championship …
NCC see’s the value of every team in a GAA club. Great show of the strength of that club that their 3rd or 4th team can win a title. I’m sure NCC is very proud.
thinly veiled ’ i got dropped for a turfmuncher and have held a grudge since’
There is only one game remaining in the Group Stages of the Limerick senior football chmapionship and that is St Senans V Hospital. Senans would be expected to win this easily and by doing so will advance to the quarter finals.
assuming the above happens the quarter finals will line out like this:
Quarter Finals
Drom/Broadford V Newcastle West
St Senans V Pallasgreen
Semi Final
Fr Caseys V ___________
Ballysteen V ___________
Who plays who in the semi finals will depend on which teams emerge from the quarters (obviously), say if a team that was in Group A and a team from Group B emerge then they play the team from the oppposite group, but if both teams are from the same original group then it’s an open draw. I would expect Drom and Senans to emerge meaning it would be an open draw for the semi’s.
A very hard competition to price up at the moment. I suppose Drom would have to still be slight favourites over Caseys.
So this is what I reckon:
Drom/Broadford 7/4
Fr Caseys 2/1
St Senans 4/1
Ballysteen 5/1
Pallasgreen 10/1
Newcastle 12/1
Ballysteen are well worth €500 at that price
I doubt it Puke. Yet to meet any of the big guns. You would have to put all three teams from the other group ahead of them. Experience counts for a lot in the latter stages of the championship.
Fr Caseys would be favourites for me, Drom/B have lots of experience but that is negated by the long year they had last year. Stokes being permanently injured doesn’t help their cause much.
It’s very tight between the two but I just feel you have to respect Droms position as Munster club champions. They did look tired against Caseys, but they have been unconvincing before in the group stages and really kicked on when it got to the serious business.
I would have huge respect for Drom/B. What they have achieved is phenomenal, their consistency is amazing, they have reached the semi-final stage or better of the county championship for the last nine years AFAIK but I just feel that their exertions over the winter could tell against them in the latter stages of the championship.

Where are Marys from? They are new enough to this level are they?
Rathcoole I believe, been senior for donkeys years, Shane Cooke carried them for a long time
Oh ya, they are handy at hurling aren’t they?
They should have a decent pick out there as well.

They hurl alright, not sure how handy they are. Won a Leinster Club League against an IHC team from Laois a year or two ago, so not sure how far up the ladder that would mean they are. Cooke of course was a Laois “legend”.
marys are from saggart…it used to be the first league fixture you’d check and pray you got them in your own ground!!..used to be filthy out there…were forced to put a fence around their pitch after one too many rows involving players and supporters…they have lost the fire a bit in recent years…as MBB says cooke was their main man but he 's retired now i think…the hurling club is called Commercials and they are in rathcoole…love to fight too…must be the country air out there…
Drom/Broadford over came NCW in the first of the senior football quarter finals on a score of 2-14 to 0-10. The other quarter, Senans V Pallasgreen, is to be played next Saturday evening @ 8:15 at the Gaelic Grounds.
In the hurling championship, Tournafulla have lost there senior status after being beaten by Garryspillane in the relegation final, 1-15 to 1-9. As footballs stock in the west has risen it has seen an almost inverse decline in the hurling. We are now left with only the protestant enclave of Adare to represent the division at senior hurling.
Murroe/Boher upset the apple cart to comfortably beat Patrickswell, 1-17 to 0-11, in one quarter final of the hurling championship and as expected Adare over came Doon in the other, 2-16 to 2-11.
And in typical Limerick county board fuckupism the full semi final line up won’t be known for another 2 weeks as the other quarter finals are fixed for the 19th and 26th of this month.
They are:
Na Piarsaigh V Croom (19th)
Emmets V Ahane (26th)

Fair play to Drom/B. Still think Fr. Casey’s will win the county though.
Very surprised at the Well losing that badly to Murroe/Boher. Though they were dark horses his year.
And glad to see Tour heading back to where they belong:clap::mad:
