Fair play to Drom/B. Still think Fr. Casey’s will win the county though.
Very surprised at the Well losing that badly to Murroe/Boher. Though they were dark horses his year.
And glad to see Tour heading back to where they belong:clap::mad:
My spies at the Drom game said NCW had just as much of the ball as Drom but failed to make use of it. NCW are a fairly poor team anyways and I would have been shocked if they had beaten Drom. I had them ranked as the worst of the last 6.
Drom/Broadford over came NCW in the first of the senior football quarter finals on a score of 2-14 to 0-10. The other quarter, Senans V Pallasgreen, is to be played next Saturday evening @ 8:15 at the Gaelic Grounds.
In the hurling championship, Tournafulla have lost there senior status after being beaten by Garryspillane in the relegation final, 1-15 to 1-9. As footballs stock in the west has risen it has seen an almost inverse decline in the hurling. We are now left with only the protestant enclave of Adare to represent the division at senior hurling.
Murroe/Boher upset the apple cart to comfortably beat Patrickswell, 1-17 to 0-11, in one quarter final of the hurling championship and as expected Adare over came Doon in the other, 2-16 to 2-11.
And in typical Limerick county board fuckupism the full semi final line up won’t be known for another 2 weeks as the other quarter finals are fixed for the 19th and 26th of this month.
They are:
Na Piarsaigh V Croom (19th)
Emmets V Ahane (26th)
Granagh-Ballingarry are from the West Runt .
Newtownshandrum sent out a chilling messege yesterday when hammering a young exciting Barrs team, 2-23 to 3-09. The Barrs in fairness had 11 U-21’s in their panel including 3 starting Minors. Newtown have added a bit of youth as well and their good U21’s like Clifford and Herlihy have come on a ton. The passing and accuracy was scaryily good.
Sars are still favourites, but they are tiring a little, and more success in the U21 isn’t helping in the sense they are playing big games all the time again like last year, wheras Newtown are having it easy U-21 and have less U-21’s anyway.
Of course CIT are a very dangerous team in the semi for Sars, so its fairly open as yet.
Valley Rovers won (as i predicted) the Intermediate Hurling title yesterday, to add to last years Football equivilant. They were cruising, but Kilworth (Band-it-age country) made a fight of it and there was only 3 in it in the end. Eamon Collins continues to show impressive form for Valleys. They should win the Premier Intermediate Football as well, and are generally on a roll.
The selection of Cork Minor teams, especially last years and this years hurling teams, was more than puzzling.
Different set up in the football this year (for next year) which has been ultra professional and extensive in its search.
Not sure if hurling is the same.
Seamus O Riain Cup Semi Final’s
Kilruane MacDonaghs 3-14 Roscrea 1-08
Lorrha Dorrha 1-17 Kildangan 0-16
Only one real surprise is the ease at which Borris-Ileigh beat Loughmore, all the other games pretty much as expected. Maybe the Lorrha result being a minor upset.
The following teams will go into the draw which takes place tonight to determine the pairings for round 2. Round 2 winners join divisional winners in QF.
Wasn’t there some hassle about the Lorrha/Dorrha game? A threatened no-show?
(Obviously it was resloved given the result above)
Ya Kildangan wouldn’t play ball in delaying it cos they had a player flying off at 6.00. Lorrha said they’d pay for him to go on a later flight. They had a Tipp senior (can’t remember which one) his brother and cousin coming back from a wedding and were hoping for it to be delayed till the evening.
Fucking hell, thought I’d called this one to be Ballinakill, shite. Anyhoo, Ballinakill won it, as I said, Keenan was a huge loss and Ballinakill were well up for it.
Clough Ballacolla v St Fintans Mountrath
Clough/Ballacolla, all the way. Great underage work being done there and they’ll have far too much for Mountrath.
Bit of a surprise here, a draw. Clough Ballacolla wont make the same mistake in the replay.
Portlaoise v The Harps
Tricky one, depends on which Portlaoise side turns up really. Cahir Healy’s return from the States will be a big boost to the Town side and should be enough to see them through.
Went to plan for the Town.
Rathdowney Errill v Castletown
Rathdowney/Errill, all the way.
Shock of the round. Champions Rathdowney Errill were leading by 6 or so with 10 to go, Castletown had a man sent off for second yellow. Rathdowney Errill figured it was a stroll to the line, only for Castletown to drive on through the irrepressible David Cuddy. Cuddy fired frees over from everywhere, and Castletown got 2 goals and that was that, Castletown walked out with the win, Champions out, and Camross out, Championship wide open.
Semi finals will see Portlaoise play Castletown and Ballinakill take on winners of Clough Ballacolla and Mountrath. Looking good for Portlaoise now, but Castletown are on a roll and I still hold out a fancy for Clough Ballacolla. Wide open though.
Football 1/4 Finals take place this weekend, and here is a reminder of what they are
Laois SFC Quarter Finals
Last weekend saw the completion of the SFC losers group stages, and has thrown up some interesting quarter finals. Its all pretty irrelevant mind you, because it’ll take a miracle for anyone to beat Portlaoise. They’re head and shoulders above everyone else in Laois Club football at the moment and while its a clich, they’ll only be beaten by themselves.
St Josephs v The Heath
Two former kingpins of Laois football but are also rans of recent years. The Heath will be on a high after winning the Junior Football Championship and League double in the last 7 days. A Club going in the right direction. Joes on the other hand seem to just tumble from one injury crisis to the next. Still depending on Garvan, Kelly and Higgins and truth be told all are walking wrecks. The Heath for me.
Portlaoise v Portarlington
Battle of the towns, but thats where the comparision ends. Portarlington will be on a high after winning the MFC a week ago, but they’ll need these players to mature very quickly and already are depending on one or two of them. Great work being done at underage level, but Portlaoise will win this with 8 to spare.
Arles Kilcruise v Mountmellick
Mountmellick were manys hope to upset Portlaoise this year (the other is down below) but just seem to be a team of hulking beasts with little concentration on football skills. They have the footballers, less time in the gym and more concetration on the skills might be in order. Kilcruise are motoring nicely this year, the more liked of the two Arles’ in recent times, I fancy them to take Mountmellick in this game if they can get a foothold through Kevin Meaney in midfield.
Arles Killeen v Emo
Killeen, (or Killeenski as they’ve become known due to their recruitment drives of recent times) will have 2 suspended players back for this game which should release Kingston back to his mosst dangerous position of full forward. Emo are the form team in Laois this year, even if they are coming from Div 2 as I’ve said before. Unbeaten all year, and this is a game they will relish. Emo to cause an upset here.

Lorrha wanted match to be move to later in the day as they had 3 players coming back from a family wedding in Spain and they weren’t getting into Dublin until 2pm.
Kiladangan wouldn’t facilitate them. They said they had their own player flying back to London that evening or something.
The 3 lads got back on time and played as far as I know.

Out of curiosity are they neighbouring clubs? Would be like something that happens between such clubs.

Would have been plenty of needle at the match so. I can imagine the speech in the Lorrah dressing room before hand.
They wouldn’t be neighbouring, but they wouldn’t be a million miles away.
Thread on PV was deleted, so things must have been getting hot between the 2.
