Club Championships 2009

No arguments here, Laois is indeed a weaker hurling county. Raymie came in at the start of the year, said he’d do the job from the start of Cship. Clough Ballacolla went on and won the league off their own bat, with Raymie taking the reins then for the Cship. They’re unbeated in all comps for the year.

Savage win for the Aghaboe parish side, first title since 1918, first title as Clough Ballacolla. They’ll drink for the week I’d say.

Willie Hyland was the main may with 2 goals from placed balls.

Was heading down to Thurles to the football semis and there seemed to be a big crowd heading for Portlaoise.
Results in the footbal semis:

Moyle Rovers 2-12 Killenaule 0-02
This was probably the worst football match I’ve ever seen, the score after 28 minutes of the 1st half was 0-01 to 0-01, Killenaule’s point was scored by their goalkeeper. Moyle Rovers tacked on 1-03 in the space of 3 minutes. Killenaule were reduced to 14 men after 2 minutes of the second half and Moyle Rovers cantered to an easy victory.
It was still a fair achievement for a hurling club, who wouldn’t train for football to reach the county semis, in the end they were missing the 2 lads sent off the week previously and 2 more through injury. They brought on 5 subs yesterday who were all minors and had won the county minor b title the day before. Moyle Rovers are a detestable shower of cunts, this is tempered slightly by the fact that they have in their ranks one of the true gentlemen of the GAA, Declan Browne, a brilliant player to watch when in full flow, he seems to have lost some of his sharpness but still struck some sweet scores.

Aherlow 2-8 Loughmore/Castleiney 0-4
Aherlow won this comfortably with Loughmore failing to score from play.Aherlow led 0-04 to 0-02 at ht and struck for a goal 10 mins into the 2nd half after an error by the Loughmore goalie and from there on it was easy enough for Aherlow.
For a neutral the 2 best teams won and deserve their places in the final, having said that, both games were poor fare, hopefully the final won’t be as bad.

Its Croke Park or nothing for KIB this year. Anyone got a price for them winning Munster? Buying money there

The no 13 for the black and amber looks an alright player

A good little clip there of how enjoyable it is to go watch Kerry Senior Championship. Most teams play delightful football.

KIB will wipe the floor with the winners.

I heard they have gone back a nice bit, and its just the standard in Clare has gone to pot.

I don’t think the champions will come from Kerry though, i’d say it will be Limerick, Cork or Waterford.

Unless Kerins O Rahillys sneak through the Kerry Club Championship way, i think they won the title yesterday, and if no Club team makes county final they will be nominated.

They would be the favourites were that to happen.
Live update from nowlan park:

The village won with a poor enough display.

Something like 2-7 to 0-11
Was at these games yesterday and the first game was very poor, was a bit shocked at the lack of intensity in the games and there was a good crowd there as well. I thought the Number 15 Erins own looked lively.

Ballyhale and o’loughlins gael was over I thought at half time with Ballyhale playing well within themselves. The first ballyhale goal was class think it was TJ Reid that got it or his brother.

Why was Cha not playing for Ballyhale?

Absolute dinger of a final in Waterford yesterday. Lismore look comfortable winners for 40 minutes but Paul Flynn single handedly dragged Ballygunner back into it, he was different class, making almost every score for the gunners.

The hurling was good, Maurice Shanahan got man of the match with 11points, county minor colleague Philip Mahony was good for Ballygunner in the last 15 minutes. Philips brother, Pauric also a minor next year, got one of Ballygunners goals, and 16 year old Paudie Pendergast took a very good goal for lismore, so flynner aside the top performances came from the young lads. Ballygunner should have the momentum next week now, after the comeback.

If its well managed i see very healthy times ahead for Waterford hurling. My contacts down there say the overall standard of the county championship has risen in last couple of years significantly.

South Liberties have finally got back their senior hurling status. After losing 7 Intermediate (yes SEVEN) finals this decade they finally won one yesterday, beating a Tom Ryan managed Ballybrown by 2 points.

There’ll be some liquor drank in the cats cradle this week I’d say.

Jesus Christ.

Is hurling coming back a bit in the city Runt at club level. See mentiuons of Na Piarsaigh doing well at underage and the like a lot lately.

Ah hard to know. Liberties haven’t much comnig through behind this team. Na Piarsaig have put in serious work under age and are starting to reap the rewards. This year they are contesting both the senior hurling final and the intermediate football final, and believe only one player is involved in both. That is some going for a club who were struggling fairly badly a few years back and are in the real rugby heartland of the city. Their pick would be mainly based around upper middle class sort of families where rugby would always have drawn most of it players from. They have good men involved at the hurling side of the club Most noteably Timmy O’Connor who managed Limerick to the minor final in '05.

The football final is an all city affair where they will meet last years beaten finalists St Pats. Both play lovely free flowing attack based football so it should be a cracker.

Pats are the Celebrity team ya?
They play good football alright.

Ya, that’s them alright. Na Piarsaig should really put it up to them though and it wouldn’t surprise if they won it. They beat Galbally in a tight affair at the weekend so they must have a bit of toughness about them.

How’s Fr. Casey’s Thomas Cahill now? When will the final be replayed?

I’d imagine he’s quiet sore.

The final is next Saturday at 4:30pm Gaelic Grounds. I belive this may clash with a Munster game earlier in the day though so traffic should be MENTAL out that way. Free admission too.

Good move, if that was down here you’d be charged again.

To be honest the first thing I thought of when I heard it was abandoned was that the county board were pulling a stroke due to the probable low attendance due it clashing with both the Munster and Ireland games.
