Give us an example of a townie side? Bridge Celtic?
Bridge Celtics reputation is well known and hasn’t changed over the past 30 years…
Townie sides would be the likes of Avenue, Lifford, Shannon Olympic, Hermitage and the now defunct Newtown who were the biggest shower of townie shapers I ever came across, used to love beating them fuckers…
Jokeshop stuff here
A GAA clubhouse that cost €1.2m to build has been demolished and must be rebuilt after difficulties with subsidence.
The Ballingeary Gaelic Football clubhouse, in west Cork, is just three years old but members were left with little choice but to tear it to the ground and reconstruct it.
Donal O Laoire, treasurer at the club, said the clubhouse was officially opened in 2007 following a major fundraising initiative in the local community. However, just one year later cracks started to appear on the building.
The construction of the clubhouse was paid for with €1m in Department of the Gaeltacht funding together with €232,000 raised by the club.
But, after a series of meetings, a consultant engineer eventually advised them that the building should be demolished because of subsidence.
Ballingeary, which has produced such stalwarts as John O’Driscoll, who was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team in the 1980s and 1990s, opened the new facility to mark the club’s 50th anniversary.
Last night, Mr O Laoire told the Irish Independent of the heartbreak felt by the local community at the loss of a much-loved and important building.
“It was very upsetting, an absolute heartbreaker,” he said. "We are in temporary accommodation at the moment in Ballingeary but we expect the building to be rebuilt by January/February 2011. We fundraised for years to build it.
“It is a big disappointment for the community because the whole community rallied around the GAA club at that time to raise the money. In 2008 we noticed there were cracks appearing in it but over time those cracks got bigger. At the end of the day the advice of the consulting engineer was that it be knocked.”
Ballingeary is one of the most respected GAA clubs in Co Cork. The club is a member of Cork GAA and the Muskerry divisional board.
The club has enjoyed enormous success over the years. In 2006 Ballingeary won the Cork Intermediate Football Championship.

martin keavey is a former KIB player and was a selector under McDermott. I thought McDermott wasnt having anything to do with KIB this year as he had enough with the Clare job.
What club do you play for? Shannon Gaels isnt it?
The natives werent too happy after the semi final defeat to Ballina alright a few years ago. Manager wanted to suspend the players who lost the head and got sent off but wasnt supported. Dont think he has been involved with the club since.
I’m intrigued to know who from KIB is rubbing Kev’s groin.
Murroe Boher and Adare both likely to win tonight?
Limeric Senior Football gets back into swing this weekend.
Powers have the games priced up, I’ve added my own thoughts below:
Group A
Drom (1/8) V St Patricks (11/2) (D 10/1)
Odds reflect Pats chances here; slim. After losing their opening two games, their hopes of making the knockout stages rest on getting a result here, but I can’t see it happening. Drom should have plenty in hand and keep Pats in the relegation spot.
Ballysteen (3/10) V St Kierans (11/4) (D 9/1)
To be honest I think the 11/4 about St Kierans represents the best value in this round. Ballysteen have had a fairly disrupted preperation, while reports from the Kierans camp have been very positive. Backboned by the McCarthy brothers, Johnny & Paudie, along with Limerick midfielder Jim Donovan they will be plenty good to put it up to Ballysteen who will have to be top of their game to get the win here. A loss for either side here puts them in grave danger of missing out on the knockout stages so it’s all to play for. I’m not saying Kierans will definitely win, but the price of 11/4 is too big.
Monaleen (2/7) V Claughan (3/1) (D 8/1)
Can’t see Monaleen letting this one slip against their city rivals. Claughan mugged Pats to pick up the win in their last game, but I would expect them to be their only points of the year. Monaleen at their ease.
Group B
Ballylanders (11/10) V Adare (10/11) (D 13/2)
Tough one to call here.Group leaders Adare have been known to fall apart after the summer break and the hurling takes hold so there could be value in backing Ballylanders. That said I haven’t heard much from either camp, but will tentatively give Bally the nod.
Fr Caseys (2/5) V Pallasgreen (9/4) (D 15/2)
Caseys should have enough for Pallas, but Pallas are a dogged side and I would always be slow to back against them. They have a habit of grinding out unlikely wins and it wouldn’t surprise me to see them get something out of this. Both teams have only one win so far, so neither side can afford to let this slip. Caseys will probably win but no value @ 2/5.
St Senans V NCW
Not priced up.
Do or die for NCW, a loss consigns them to the relegation battle, something which would have been the last thought on their mind earlier in the year as they breezed through the pre-championship tournaments. Senans would have been 3rd favourties at the start of the year but haven’t been firing on all cylinders yet this year. Should be a very entertaining game and I reckon St Senans will do the business.
Castlemartyr 0-18 Russell Rovers 1-11 FT.
Nemo beaten, Sars beaten, Cloughduv beaten - the county is ours.
Clough Duv are still in it, and only started training recently, they are aiming at county and nothing else.Mayfield are the favourites. Dungourney beat Sars? Big shock
Fuck Cloughduv.
Mayfield are favourites to win the county outright? Have you got the odds (if there is any) ?
Group A
Drom/Broadford 3-14 St Pat 1-2
Monaleen 2-3 Claughan 1-4
St Keirans 2-8 Ballysteen 0-13
Group B
St Senans 1-15 NCW 1-9
Ballylanders 0-10 Adare 1-11
Fr Caseys 0-15 Pallasgreen 0-7
The Laois SFC finally threw in over the weekend, August folks, August I fuckin ask ya…
Anyways, Leinster Champions Portlaoise survived a first round scare from The Heath to win 1-12 to 1-10. Heath forward Daithi Carroll was the best player on view, and hopefully has sorted out his hamstring problems to possibly start to achieve something of his talent. Paul Cahillane’s goal put the town 5 up and was enough to break the back of The Heath challenge who have themselves to blame for some stupid fouling.
Last years Intermediate champions Clonaslee St Manmans won what looks to be the relegation decider between themselves and Ballyroan Abbey who are decimated with losses, none moreso than MJ Tierney. They look fucked. It was something like 0-8 to 0-5.
In another shite game Arles Killeen beat Emo 1-10 to 0-9. Jason Enright got the goal, but Killeen looked poor.
Arles Kilcruise beat a decimated Mountmellick side 0-10 to 1-4. Munnelly was v poor for Kilcruise and is a shadown of the player he once was. Mountmellick will be in relegation trouble unless they get a few lads back from overseas.
Paul Bealo’s Graiguecullen beat Ballylinan 1-10 to 0-7. Ballylinan would be dogged but limited so this was an expected win, but Graigue will no doubt find a way to fuck it up for themselves and their high earning manager. They always do.
Stradbally beat The Rock 1-13 to 0-9 in another poor game. Not sure Strad are much good, but The Rock will be another relegation candidate.
St Josephs saw off O Dempseys in the only other game which was decent apart from The Towns game. A missed penalty for O D’s was enough to give Joes the breathing room to wrap this one up. Dempseys drew it level 0-9 to 0-9 but Joes had enough to ease through 0-13 to 0-10.
Crettyard surprisingly beat a fancied Portarlington outfit. Cretty are a dogged shower of cunts, and 2 penalties were a help to them, and Port leaking 2 other goals sealed the deal. Port will be back.
Next round is as follows
Winners Section
Portlaoise v Crettyard
St Manmans v Graiguecullen
St Josephs v Stradbally
Arles Kilcruise v Arles Killeen
Portlaoise will beat Cretty pulling up.
Graigue will take Manmans but expect cards.
Joes will have enough for Strad.
And then you have the battle of Arles again. Could go either way, but will be worth the entrance fee.
Losers Section
Ballylinan v The Rock
Emo v Portarlington
Ballyroan Abbey v The Heath
Mountmellick v O’Dempseys
Ballylinan should have enough for The Rock.
Port will beat Emo.
The Heath will crush Ballyroan.
Dempseys will push aside Mountmellick.
Anyone know when the draw for the Munster club is taking place…Huge chance for Newmarket this year…
Well i played against them, Clough Duv and a few other of the leading teams, and Mayfield are in great nick. The 2 Kellys are too good for Junior.
Puke Newmarket wouldn’t have a hope of winning the Munster Club.
Why and because Kev
how are the two Arles clubs getting on with each other these days? is it true that the broke up over a row about the club name?
While Clare hurling is improving club wise i don’t think they are near the top teams in Tipp, Waterford, Cork. I don’t think they would have the players to win 2-3 games against the winners from these counties.
Going on recent form anyway.
With home advantage, which they would have over a Waterford or Cork champions and the monkey off their back of finally winning a county title they would certainly be capable of beating them…They also have serious depth to their panel, take out their four or five main men, Stephen Kelly, Enda Barrett, James Macinerney, Shane O’Brien(tipp version) and Colin Ryan and there isn’t much between the next 20 lads on the and have a young panel to boot…Whoever gets out of Clare this year will put up a decent account of themselves, Cratloe look a better team than last year and have a bit more depth to their panel as well
As in all these situations, the young lads get on grand, they play together underage with another club in an amalgamation, but the auld lads despise each other and always will. It was partly because of the name alright, but as always, there’s a lot more than just that.
why? why else do they depise each other?
must be a big parish if they can field 2 good senior teams?
