If you’re getting beaten by 20 odd points in your provincial Championship then it doesn’t bode well for its current state.
People seem to be unable to differentiate between a super club and a functioning club championship. Even when Crossmaglen were dominating All Ireland Football they were never really romping it through Ulster.
It’s inevitable that Corofin, Crokes and Kilmacud will win their provincial titles at a canter this year. That is worrying.
I saw some quick highlights of this last night. What is it about Cork teams and their inability to defend. Backs diving out for balls they were never going to get letting the forwards waltz through. Refusing to drop additional players back to plug gaps. Steadfastly sticking to a rigid traditional formation.
You could repeat the above for Cork hurlers and footballers over the last number of years
That’s in no way relevant to the point I made. The point I made was that Ulster is not a very competitive Club Championship. 7 of the 9 Ulster counties are pretty much an irrelevance. 21 of the last 24 Ulster Championships have been won by Derry (9 times) or Armagh (12) clubs. Crossmaglen account for 11 of the 12 from Armagh.
The first game on the slate is the the Munster Club SHC semi-final between Ballygunner (Waterford) and Na Piarsaigh (Limerick) , which will throw-in at Simple Stadium at 2.00pm .
Those lads are jokers. You’d have to have sympathy for genuine people who study journalism and slog it out for a few years but then see people for j*e.ie and balls get to call themselves journalists.
It should finish in January in my opinion. Currently clubs that win their provincial title in late November early December have to wait until mid February for a semi final and mid March for the final. That’s 2 matches in a little over 3 months. Play All Ireland Semi FInals in mid January and FInals on last weekend in January. All matches in Croke Park as the pitch is always good. It would shorten the season considerably and save a pile of training expenses for the clubs involved.
Portlaoise best Ballinamere in the Leinster IHC semi final. They play Graigue-Bally in the final. Portlaoise’s main man is Tommy Fitz, a selector next year with Laois’ new hurling manager Eddie Brennan.
GB were very good today. Forward unit is very good, great style of play to them too. Billy Ryan is a very good hurler, really showed his class. There was only 3 points in it about half way thru the second half and they got 2 quick goals and a couple of points and finished it off. Eddie got the first of the goals, so will probably get the headlines, but he was peripheral enough throughout and wasn’t a major influence on the game.
