Club Championships 2021 - is fulvio a cameraman?

The much maligned billy o Keefe getting some recognition I see

Demographics play a part but a largish rural town that is relatively well-located for employment purposes will tend to continue flourishing if they have a tradition. The tradition being that players in the past, who actually know what they’re on about, get involved in coaching underage teams, etc.

Cities will ebb and flow. Like, Claughaun are traditionally the dominant team in Limerick, they’re not worth a fuck now because they just don’t have the numbers. Whereas someplace like Sixmilebridge will always be there or thereabouts.

It took Kilcoo 30 years of hard work and millions of pound sterling in investment to reach the top of the mountain.

They are a bit of an anomaly.

Sixmilebridge were an also ran until the early 80s

Newmarket were the historically dominant team in Clare but fell away after the late 80s

The bridge have very little coming through and their senior side is coming to the end. A lot of lads thr wrong side of 30 on it and no fresh blood.

They haven’t produced above average underage hurler since Jamie Shanahan a decade ago

Portumna would seem to fit the bill there, and Caltra in the football. A good set of brothers can make a huge difference at club level, as it has in Kilcoo as well.

Only 25 out of 72 clubs in Tipp have won a Senior Championship. And only 12 have won it more than once. I presume thats replicated in most counties.

Im often reminded of the great PJ Mansfields post on Premierview back in the halcyon days about a half time puckaround between Lorrha and Borrisileigh. One set of 5 year olds were striking left and right, controlling the ball one touch into the hand and bringing a serious intensity to proceedings.

The other set of 5 year olds were mishitting scuttery balls along the ground and digging potatoes… You can guess which were the Borrisileigh lads and which were the Lorrha lads…

Tradition and Culture are everything.

Considering their pick is huge and they have the numbers to field three teams at some grades it is an awful indictment on the club itself. The soccer club is supposed to be tipping along nicely these days.

Davy not involved in the soccer club so.

In terms of tradition. Patrickswell didn’t exist until 1960’s. NAP were formed even after that. Between the two of them they’ve won 8 of the last ten counties.
Between themselves and Kilmallock they have won the last 12. None of the 3 of them had won a county before 1960.
South Liberties were King Pins once upon a time. They are senior B now, spent time at inter. More likely to be inter than champions in the next few years.
Adare and Ahane the same. It’s nearly 20 years since Ahane the traditional rulers of Limerick won it. They’ll be another 20 years before they win one.
In the mid 80s Claughaun had 10 when Patrickswell had 10. Claughaun won their 10th in 86. The Well won theirs in 87 and then ten more times after that. Claughaun are Junior A now, and were lucky to have a club at all for a few years.

Doon are a club with great tradition. They’ve won zero.

Tradition counts. But it can count for fuck all as well

The crowd with one Munster Club title who shat themselves against a team of bullocks from Offaly kn the All Ireland Semi?

I’d be very very confident that Thurles will still be winning Tipperary Championships and competing in Munster Clubs in 10, 20, and 50 years time.

Same with the rest of the clubs on that list. I forgot about Crossmaglen too, probably the best example of them all.

Tradition and heritage are everything in sport.

Magnificent from Danny Hughes, a fine noble man

Those tights are are generally a good indicator of cuntishness.
