No. Second team
Saw a small of Ballygunner on Clubber. They had a black lad with serious pace.
Was there a new fella from Offaly playing for na Fianna?
He was the best player on the pitch in an U21 Match between Cork and Waterford in 2017. Scored 5 from play at Midfield.
A late controversial 21 yard free awarded by Fergal Horgan and buried by Deccie Dalton put paid to Waterfordâs hopes of doing back to back Under 21.
Conor Tobin
Lively player.
I clipped into Parnell Park this afternoon for the double header. A greasy evening with some light showers and a stiff breeze threw up two differing games. The added bonus was the unintentional picking up of a ticket for the game tomorrow.
The group 2 clash of Ballyboden and Vincents went in line with my prediction of a bookmakers shock and Vins winning. Pat Gilroy did not seem to be on the line but that did not deter them at all. They went in a point down at half time. They play a dogged style. One man inside and everyone else working back. They have some limited lads on the team but there workrate is to be commended. Hedgo showed up a times today with big scores. Iâve bigged up Darach McBride here many times and he clipped 4 points. A joke he isnât on the county panel. Conor Burke and Tomo Connolly did well also. Brian Moorehouse Carroll is a smashing man marker. Boden were a point up at half time. David Gleeson, their Tipp import showed some good flashes with a few good points. Iâve alluded previously about them relying on their Dads army. They had 4 lads in their 30s and closer to 35 operating in their half forward line. All good hurlers in their own right but they no longer have the legs to do that work. Iâve no doubt they will regroup and qualify with three easier tests to come.
The big one came up next and Na Fianna got a boost before the start with the news that Crokes were missing Ronan Hayes, Alex Considine and Fergal Whitely. Crokes elected to play with a sweeper missing those bodies. The half time score was 3-5 to 14 points Na Fianna, scoring three lovely goals but hitting bad wides. Oisin O Rorke, Brian Hayes and Micheal Roche were very good for Crokes. The 2nd half was tit for tat. NaF missed a few goal chances, Crokes hit some poor wides. Donal Burke and Sean Currie were both very quiet for NaF. Crokes will probably be the happier team with the draw knowing all the bodies they have to return. On a sidenote, Sean Stack refereed the game today. In the first half he gave Crokes a pen, however after chatting with his umpires he realised his mistake and gave a clash ball. Rare enough to see a referee make a u-turn like that. His Dad was sitting near me in the stand. A fine fit man still.
There were two other draws in O 'Toole Park. The Cuala/Lucan one added to the draw between NAF/KC makes that group intriging.
The draw between Craobh and Judes, keeps Judes alive but as good as consigns Craobh to a relegation battle.
Heard he is after getting three months. What did he do? Big loss for them.
Yeah there was a Spollen lad playing in MF. Hadnât heard of him in years past. Was involved in a heavy shoulder collision before HT. Both players ended up going off.
Burke might need some time off to freshen up
He missed all of last year so should be mad for it.
Crokes and Na Fianna are two serious teams and either of them could easily end up in an All Ireland Club Final.
Couple of surprising result in the opening round of the Wexford SFC. Castletown hammered St Anneâs 3-18 to 0-5. Robbie Brooks with a hat-trick of goals. The Coolgreaney men showing no ill-effects of the loss of Ben Brosnan to Carnew. Glynn-Barntown had a convincing 1-17 to 2-5 win against Kilanerin too which wouldnât necessarily have been expected. Although the North county men were missing Scholsey, Jason Bolger, Conor Devitt and PĂĄraic Hughes.
Starlights got a much needed boost with a last gasp victory against Crossabeg-Ballymurn. Nick Doyle of Enniscorthy rugby fame with the late goal to win it. Sarsfields had 6 points to spare against Bunclody and reigning champions Shels ousted St Jamesâ by 3-9 to 0-10. Theyâll be very hard beaten and posters here will remember how close they came to beating Naas in Croker back in 2021. Eoghan Oâ Gara with a goal for Shels. Sean âMiniâ Ryan starred for Gusserane in their 5-10 to 2-8 defeat of Naomh Ăanna.
Interesting to note that there was a battle of two Wexford 1996 All-Ireland winners when Carnew and Glenhealy clashed in the Wicklow senior hurling championship this weekend. Eamonn Scallan who received his marching orders that day got the better of Liam Dunne with Carnew victors on a 0-19 to 0-11 scoreline. Wexford hurling managers are to the Wicklow club hurling scene, what Kerry football managers are to the Laois inter-county team. Seamus âMaggotâ Murphy ruled the roost up there for a while with Glenhealy in their pomp, PJ Carley oversaw Bray Emmettâs recent period of success. Martin Storey and Scallan have also managed the Wicklow hurlers in the last decade. 5 in a row champions Bray had a goal to spare against a game Kiltegan team.
As mentioned previously. The Carlow SHC semi-finals will see St Mullins meet Bagenalstown and MLR play Ballinkillen. St Mullins looking ominous at this stage but wary of a final ambush by MLR like last year. Ballinkillen should threaten MLR in the semi-final too having drawn with them in the round robin. The intermediate semi-finals see St Mullins meet Myshall and MLR face Carlow Town. The fact that Carlow Townâs 1st team (intermediate) lost a Junior E league final in Kilkenny to St Martinâs 3rd team emphasises how remarkable the Carlow draw with Kilkenny really was. Itâs mind blowing really when you consider that CTHC would probably be the 7th strongest club team in Carlow.
Is Brian Kennedy still over Abbeydorney ?

Clubber are some boys, imagine having the gumption not to pay them and instead use the dodgy box.
If nobody pays it wonât survive. Costing me a fortune for sky and various other apps but if we all stop paying it worth be viable.
Fair impressive.
Hoping they branch into Limerick this year.
Exactly, Id say theres less than a quarter paying for it and theyll be cribbing when its gone.
Itâs a great service, shame on any lad hacking it. Every cunt wants something for nothing
Carlow senior hurling semi finals tomorrow night.
St Mullins v Bagenalstown
Ballinkillen v Mount Leinster Rangers
St Mullins beat Bagenalstown 4-21 to 0-8 last week in the final round of the round Robin stages. The best spin you could put on it from a Bagenalstown perspective was that last week was a dead rubber and they were down to 14 inside 10 minutes with Andrew Casey sent off. Thereâs only going to be one outcome here though.
Second one could be interesting. They drew in the group stages in a match where Ballinkillen were much the better team. Rangers were missing their two best men Chris Nolan and Fiachra Fitzpatrick that night though who were both in the US.
Fiachra Fitzpatrick was on the line for Bagenalatown match as he wasnât home from the US long enough to be cleared to play. He ended up picking up a red card after getting caught up in a melee and is suspended for tomorrow night and the final if necessary. Very tough after cutting short a J1 summer to come home and hurl with the club. This is the reality of the split season on the ground in a lot of counties though.
Chris Nolan is home too and tomorrow is the first day heâs cleared to play.
A big boost for Ballinkillen is that Craig Wall was cleared at a Leinster Council hearing on Wednesday night to play in the semi final. He had received a two match ban for an incident that was picked up retrospectively on camera in Round 1 against Myshall. His Carlow CCC hearing only took place seemingly after Round 3 and it was felt that that he was then out for Round 4 and semi final when a 2 match ban was upheld. Apparently though he hadnât been able to play in Round 3 for personal reasons. Ballinkillen successfully argued before the Leinster Council that the 2 match suspension was from last game played, which was Round 3 (even though that was before the Carlow CCC hearing) and Round 4 and the 2 match ban is now completed, so is clear to play in semi final.
Iâd give Ballinkillen a great chance, but when all is said and done, I reckon Rangers will sneak it by maybe 2 to 3 points.
As ever in the Carlow SHC, nearly as much going on off the field as on it.
Bagenalstown after letting a 7 point lead just before half time slip get a goal off a free with the last puck of the game to level it at 4-14 apiece.
Replay next week.
Chris Nolan ineligible to play for Rangers by 5 hours. Got the sums wrong in calculating return date from Boston.
