Club Championships 2025/26

Martins and Annes looking strong again but it’s all about peaking from September onwards.

Informative. Thanks :+1:

Are they given a hand? Surely there’s something going on in the schools as well like. I haven’t a clue, but strikes me as an awful lot of laziness going on with them well. Once upon a time you had New Ross Celtic doing right well in Wexford in Premier Division, now their swinging between Premier and first.

Crossabeg bet Gorey there today which would have surprised me.

Get the odd fool there, but sure no worse in any other club I guess. Worse I ever seen in the county is Rapps, they bring along awful fools to matches on the sideline.

That was Rathnure they’ll be delighted with 2 wins.

Rathnure actually beat gorey. 8 or 9 points too which is surprising.

It’s been 12 years since back to back winners in Munster football, but Dr Crokes are surely in a fine position to do it this year again. Looking at last Sunday they had 5 involved against Armagh? (Looney, Burns, Brosnan, Mark O Shea, White). With a right good supporting cast.

One of their younger prodigies, Charlie Keating, has the makings of a serious footballer. I’m surprised he wasn’t called in by Jack. I’m expecting them to win out Kerry this year again anyway. It would be great to see Dingle win the coveted Kerry County Championship too though. And you wouldn’t put it past Austin Stacks to win it with a seriously talented squad

Castlegar beat Patrickswell yesterday on the BOICMC

charlie keating is in training with kerry all year , just not making the match day squad

My bad. That makes sense alright. Crokes and Stacks seem to be dominating underage with their respective talent coming through

@Galaxy @billyocean ah, I was told in work, someone told me. Weekends taken away from me because of it mostly.

Any similar for the football championship?

Very same I believe, one fits all.

This Kevin Corrigan chap is fantastic at lowering the blade on club teams.

Tore Kilcormac Killoughy a new one earlier in the year too in what might be the first post in this thread.

McConway was and still is a fine player. Saw him in action with Gracefield not so long ago and he lorded it over fancied rivals

Huh? Smith I presume you mean.

Dragging Rochford to tullamore seems a bit mental

Sorry, yes Smith.

Rochford loves cash.

Rathnure, St Anne’s, Shels and St Martin’s are the 4 early pace setters in the Wexford senior hurling championship. They all look good to progress directly to the quarter-finals at this stage. Newly promoted Rathnure had a particularly impressive 1-24 to 0-18 victory over Gorey. Seán O’ Connor put seal on the victory with a late goal while Jack Redmond was firing over frees from inside his own half. Declan Ruth has them purring and is building a nice managerial CV but too early in the championship to read too much into a result like this. Relegation seems to have been a good cleanser for them though. Just like it was for St Anne’s when they took the drop in 2016 before immediately responding and subsequently reaching senior finals in 2019, 2021 and 2024. They could go one better this year and had 11 points to spare against Ferns on Friday night. David Redmond is doing a good job there and the old hands like Dee O’ Keefe, Liam Óg and the Rochford’s are still featuring prominently. It hasn’t been a good week for Ferns when you add in a 23 point hammering against Rathnure in the U21. The age profile of the senior team would be a slight concern I’d imagine but they have been missing Paul Morris (who incidentally is about 35).

Shels fought back from 6 points down with 12 minutes to go to oust Glynn-Barntown by the minimum 0-21 to 2-13. Simon Donohoe continued his recent scoring burst for Wexford with 0-2 and Ross Banville scored 0-10 in all. The Martin’s kept the Rapps at arms length despite losing another man to a red card (second yellow). This time Wexford senior football panellist Philip Dempsey. Rory O’ Connor, Luke Kavanagh and Ben Stafford hit the net for the Martin’s while Kevin Foley contributed 1-1 once again. Still no sign of Liam Ryan for the Enniscorthy men.

Oylegate secured the local bragging rights against Crossabeg-Ballymurn with Seamus Casey hitting the net twice for the victors. While Rory Jacob is 0/2 in his nascent managerial career as 14 man Oulart were pipped by Faythe Harriers 0-18 to 0-16. Eoin Moore scored a point and then promptly saw the line for a second yellow shortly afterwards. Lee Chin scored 0-5 from play on his return for the Harriers.

Here’s the current lay of the land after two rounds of fixtures.

Intermediate:
Cloughbawn continued their winning ways in the intermediate hurling championship as they secured a relatively comfortable 1-23 to 0-16 victory over Liam Mellows. The Whitty brothers contributing 0-15 of that tally. Gusserane also had a comfortable victory with Wexford football full-back Gavin Sheehan scoring two of their goals in a 4-16 to 1-13 success against struggling Horeswood. New signing Andrew Shore scoring a point for the latter. Meanwhile St James’ had too much for Fethard in an impressive 1-17 to 0-12 win. Another Wexford footballer Kevin O’ Grady was instrumental with a tally of 0-3 from play.

Bunclody are missing quite a few players through injury and from the bit of the game I saw on Clubber around Sunday lunchtime they were flattered to only lose to Askamore by 4 points (1-26 to 3-16). A rare victory for Askamore against their near neighbours, an intermediate final back around 2009 the only time I can remember them beating Bunclody but it could become a common enough occurrence if their minors convincing Roinn 1 (2nd tier) final victory against Naomh Éanna last year was anything to go on. I saw a bit of the draw between Buffers Alley and Craanford on Sunday night where a goalkeeping fumble afforded the Alley a route back into the game. A late flurry of goals ensued as it finished 3-14 apiece. Blackwater snuck the other game 3-16 to 0-24 against Tara Rocks having scored all 3 of their goals against the wind.

Intermediate A:
Martin Storey is over the Oulart second team and they won their opening round game before succumbing to a 1-21 to 0-13 defeat against a promising Davidstown-Courtnacuddy outfit. Monageer made it from 2/2 with a 1-16 to 2-12 victory against the Duffry Rovers. Pádraig Flynn with perhaps the goal of the round which is available online on the Clubber highlights reel. Taghmon beat the Geraldine O’ Hanrahans by 3 and St Mary’s Rosslare ousted Adamstown by a goal as well. John Mullane is still waiting for his first points on the board as Cushinstown lost by 0-17 to 0-11 against the Martin’s second string who surprisingly only had 17 togged. Not all doom and gloom for the losers though as they do have Wexford’s best minor in recent years Seán O’ Brien to come on stream in the next couple of seasons. Dáire Bolger is a big absentee for them.

Extended highlights of the two senior hurling games in the Carlow SHC are available online and showcased a Tour De France by veteran John Michael Nolan as Naomh Eoin (Myshall) had a surprisingly facile 2-20 to 0-9 victory against Bagenalstown. Quirke is a great Myshall GAA name and Cian Quirke continued that tradition as he hit the net twice for the victors. Bagenalstown face a win or bust game against Ballinkillen or they’ll be the team who miss the semi-final cut. Ballinkillen themselves put in a respectable performance against MLR but it was Rangers who were comfortable enough (0-26 to 2-13). Chris Nolan wracked up a tally of 0-17.

In the Carlow intermediate championship Naomh Bríd continued their relentless pursuit for promotion with an 11 point victory against MLR, Myshall’s second string beat newly promoted Burren Rangers 4-12 to 1-13 and Kildavin-Clonegal and St Mullin’s second team shared the spoils (3-16 to 4-13). I’d imagine the standard in these games wasn’t too dissimilar to what we saw from Kilgarvan and Dr Crokes in Kerry on Tuesday night.
