Club Championships 2025/26

5 years would be rough on the bloke but a precedent should also be set. It’s getting out of hand

Group 1

Na Fianna vs Lucan
This game will decide top spot in the group. NaF have been impressive so far despite not playing their full team in any game. I assume that will change in this game as we are at the business end of things. Tom Brennan and Jack Meagher have been impressive so far for them with some of the big names not at full tilt yet. Brennan is a full forward in the SOD/Con mode. He looks ugly as a hurler but is extremely effective. Lucan have regressed a bit in my opinion. Luke Walsh is out inj and Ben Coffey is suspended. Charlie Carter seems tied to his older crew. Last year Lucan got a last minute goal to win this group game encounter. I can’t see it happening this time. NaF by 4+

Ballyboden vs Craobh Chiarain
This is a total dead rubber with the result of this game having no bearing on either teams group position. Boden scored heavily the last day while Craobh were hammered. Boden by 12+ here.

St Judes vs Naomh Barrog.
A bit of real jeopardy in this one. A win here for either team will be seen as real progress this year. Judes were relegated last year but stayed up in the restructure, while Barrog won the Sen B last year. Judes were competitive first day out vs NaF and then had a good win vs Craobh. However they have since taken two bad beatings vs Lucan and Boden. Barrog started poorly vs Boden and NaF. However they have since abandoned their sweeper set up. They hammered Craobh and were very competitive vs Lucan. Judes are the more even balanced team with no superstars. Danny Sutcliffe is still out. Barrog depend on Doyle, Flanagan and Gallagher to do a lot of the heavy lifting while there is a bit of a tail on their team. The weather this week will mean Parnell will be heavy and I give Barrog a tentative nod in a battle.

Group 2.

Brigids vs OPER
Brigids are having a great year. Good wins vs Vincents and Whitehall and narrow losses vs Crokes and Cuala. They bring a lovely championship edge with them to every game. In Cian O Sullivan they have the form player of the championship who is clipping 5/6 points from play every game. OPER threw in the towel the last day vs Cuala conceding 5 goals in the final quarter. I can’t see them having the required fight here in this local derby. Brigids by 6+

Kilmacud Crokes vs Cuala.
Cuala need some sort of result here to stay in the championship as Vins and Whitehall both have them on head to head. Crokes like Naf in the other group have been impressive so far without showing anything like their full hand. Crokes are already through in top spot but I really can’t see them aiding their neighbours knockout chances. Crokes achilles heel is their FBL and they will get a right test here vs Con. He scored 2-2 the last day and must have assisted another 3-6. Cuala however have weak links in other parts of the field and I expect Crokes to expose them and win by 5+

Whitehall vs Vincents
Both teams had wins in the opening two rounds but have since lost their 3rd and 4th games. Both will also be hoping Crokes can do them a favour and knock Cuala out. Whitehall with a full team are decent but missing any few at all are really vulnerable. Dara Grey is seemingly out again while Lee Gannon is nursing a hand injury. The game may come down to which full forward gets more traction. Eoin O Donnell or Hedgo. I think it will be Hedgo and give Vins the nod by 3 points

The BOX OFFICE INDUSTRIES Tyrone Senior Football Championship begins tonight. cc @Cheasty

Reigning Tyrone and Ulster champions Errigal Ciaran put their O’Neill and Seamus McFerran Cups on the line when they take on Ardboe at 7.15pm.

I’m finding it hard to muster any sort of enthusiasm for Club Football under these stupid new rules Jim Gavin had inflicted on us, but if any county championship can save us, perhaps Tyrone can.

September 11th is a wee bit early to start Ireland’s premier club championship but shure look it it’s all good.

Will be a great championship as always. Only a fool would dismiss the possibility of the All-Ireland finalists from early this year being dumped out tonight.

Trillick v Dungannon on Saturday evening should be the game to end all games.

They played in the League a few weeks ago and in ‘old money’ Trillick edged it 0-17 to 0-16 but thanks to this 2 pointer nonsense, Dungannon actually won 0-25 to 0-17. A complete cod.

I’d like Jim Gavin to get trounced in the election if only as karma for what he has done to our game.

It wont be forgotten.

Whats the issue with the new rules? It has made football watchable again

In fairness to his teammates , very few went in to crowd with him .

How is the Senior B shaping up? Will my beloved Faughs make the step up this year? If they do any chance of them staying up for a while instead of being up and down the senior ranks every couple of years?

Its on a par now with Sevens Rubby and 20/20 Cricket in terms of how seriously it can be taken.

Low-fat sport.

You’d wonder about the thought process of those who got excited about and pine for the old style negative dour football that had permeated our games. Thats the way it went I suppose.

The two best games of Gaelic Football played in 2025 were played in January under the proper rules.

Sorry, but you are once again incorrect on this. My apologies, you must have missed the previous post when I corrected you on it also.

Kerry v Armagh
Donegal v Armagh
Derry v Galway
Kerry v Cork in the Pairc
Meath v Dublin
Meath v Louth
Down v Monaghan

Just to name a small few.

I know you’re half wumming but still. The rules have allowed for players to finally express themselves and show their skills rather than the hand passing shit we were submitted to for over a decade. Let’s not let nostalgia of the mid 2015s get in the way.

Knockout games are the only ones that count.

Kerry v Armagh wasn’t a good game.

None of the rest were knockout.

Jesus peddler between your anti split season stance and now you are anti new rules- I can’t take you seriously as a GAA man at all

But shur the Football All Ireland Semi Finals and Final may as well not have been played, they were so bad.

And the Quarter Finals weren’t much better.

Even the champions of these new rules like Maurice Brosnan and Cahair O’Kane were looking to make the Croke Park pitch smaller, the whole thing was such a flop. :joy:
