Club Championships 2025/26

Sure they don’t even mark the 45 in KK, not to talk of this new 40m arc :rofl:

I’d say these were well attended :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

We’ve had workshops on the rules in UPMC Nowlan Park over the last fortnight, the coaches and referees have attended and the information has gone out to the clubs,” reports county secretary Seamus Reade. “Groundsmen have been encouraged to ensure the pitches are properly marked with the new lines but obviously there are difficulties in doing that with the weather.

The biggest challenge will be for clubs to get 15 lads to field.

You know they’ll just say fuck it we’ll just play by the old rules

Railyard train and haven’t even won the thing in years. In fairness I think Vegas went on a decent run in the Leinster intermediate recently.

The only SFC county final i have attended in Ireland was the 2024 Laois county final which was as turgid a match as I’ve ever seen. The new rules might benefit most counties.

I think you mean the 2023 one. That was a shocker between Joes and Portlaoise. Port and Portlaoise was a decent game.

Mayo is traditionally shocking which is strange given the talent in the county

It could be complete bullshit but was told either 1 in 50 or 1 in 100 people can function on 2 hours sleep, 2 examples given were Maggie Thatcher and Vince McMahon.

Clinton too

Brolly gets an hour in early in the night, then another towards morning but gets 5 or 6 hours Legal work in between 11pm and 6am.

Apologies 2023. Brutal stuff. Great craic after but the match was a display of everything these rules hopefully will rid us of.

Games gone.

Feale Rangers and Shannon Rangers to merge under one North Kerry umbrella creating a amalgamatation of two divisional teams, which is a strange concept to wrap your head around.

The Kenmare District board folded up shop a few years back when both Kenmare and Templenoe went senior and they were left with two clubs.

And the Tralee Board has been in and out of existance over the years due to only having three clubs.

So there is some preceedence, kind of, but not really.

The new entity will have 14 clubs to pick from. TBF most of them are shit.

Now the likes of West Kerry, Mid Kerry and Brendans with only 5 or 6 clubs each are at an even bigger disadvantage. So West and Mid and Brendans and Kierans or someone will have to merge and so on until the Kerry county team themselves are playing in the Kerry championship.

Passed almost unopposed, which reflects the fact that

  1. No one expects them to be any use, even together
  2. They are trying to make space for more club teams in the senior championship anyway.

There was to be 17 in this years championship with 9 clubs and 8 divisions, so it was a bit of a fucking mess anyway. So now 16 teams. But it’s moving to 18 next year with one more club, so now 17 teams. So that’s back to being a mess again.

They’ll have to go back to the drawing board on those plans

The temporary format for 2025, is some design by committee

*2025 Kerry SFC format *

*Preliminary round 1 *

Involves six district teams (three games) with North Kerry getting a bye. The three winners progress to round 1, while the three beaten teams and North Kerry go into preliminary round 2.

*Preliminary round 2 *

Two games with the two winners progressing to round 1. The five district teams (three from round 1 and two from round 2) progress from this section to join the nine clubs to send 14 team into Round 1.

*Round 1 *

14 teams (6 v 6 with two byes). There will be an open draw for the two byes and for the six round 1 games thereafter; repeat pairings from preliminary rounds 1 and 2 will be avoided.

Having only 8 senior clubs in Kerry is mad enough - would they not at least increase it to 12 or 14 and let the divisions play off amongst themselves for the remaining 2/4 spots. Fairly sure the Cork divisions have a separate section with the winners or finalists joining the proper competition then.

Its worked well up to recently. You’d hope they wouldnt bend too easily on it. There is a County Championship as well. Clubs are well catered for.

Sad state of affairs to see that many poor North Kerry Clubs given the storied nature of the North Kerry Championship.

I suppose Kerry has a lot of smaller clubs than the norm so the divisions cater for their players playing at a higher level which is fair enough too.

Is there any decent teams in North Kerry at the moment? Rural depopulation? Without knowing a lot about it but the population of Kerry seems to be based around the towns of Tralee and Killarney.

Listowel & Castleisland would be mid table intermediate teams. They’d be decent enough but a lot of the smaller clubs like Moyvane, Brosna etc are simply struggling with rural depopulation and numbers.

They are increasing it to 10, it’s 9 this year and they were keeping them seperate until later.
