Ran out of steam in the end
@ChairmanDan @Galaxy just seen Carlow town won the intermediate hurling last week. Thatâs some going.
Heâs so fuckin clever with every thing he does , hurling or football .
How so? They have a history of being a senior club, albeit they havenât won one since 1988. Given the broad pick they have then being up senior is the least youâd expect. Carlow hurling needs them back competing in the top grade. A few Eire Ăg footballers playing dual now but they usually wouldnât be overly encouraging of that and most lads give up the hurling after minor.
I thought it was them who were started the last 10 years? I couldnât give a fuck about Carlow hurling, just thought they were a new club coming up.
Nah thatâs Setanta. They won their first ever competitive fixtures this year but lost the Junior shield final to Burren Rangers 2nd team. Looking at some of their underage results Iâd say theyâll find it very difficult to get that project off the ground. Seems to be a Dads Army effort so far.
The effort from the Belmullet goalie with the late kick ![]()
The fucking shaping ![]()
Anybody who saw the corresponding game last year wonât have been a bit surprised by that result. Cuala a much superior football team.
It is good to see Carlow Town back Senior. Theyâve been out of senior 12 or 13 years.
They were a powerful enough force all the way up to their last senior win in 1988 and still strong enough through 90âs and in to early 00âs. The Carlow Town Hurling Club 11 a side was a huge national tournament as well back in the day. They were a club well ahead of its time in their facilities and set up. Club tore itself apart with Civil War then and as @Aertel220 has alluded to, you had the Setanta schism. There was a cohort in the Sugar Factory that ran the show for a long time and a bit like the Sugar Factory which died a death after 80 years, they became out of touch too.
Theyâve worked hard at underage levels over last decade or so and are making good strides to recapture former glories.
Carlow Town Hurling Club was a bit of a boutique venue for challenge matches and colleges games too in the early to mid 2000s

Good to see a lot of the clubs I was championing on the forum for the last couple of years all in the mix and making the business end of proceedings this year.
Your Clarinbridgeâs, Inagh Kilnamonaâs, Ballinamereâs, Fr Caseys of this world. Doon and Kilmacud Crokes hurlers still there too.
St Martins turning over castletown some shock. Castletown beat them by 25 points in the group section . Football very much comes second for Martins behind hurling
Absolutely, they just have so much physicality and fitness and a strong mentality after their hurling exploits of the last 2 years.
Have been flat out lately most weekends, have we had many county finals played so far other than Kilkenny getting the football out of the way and Waterford getting Ballygunner out of the way?
I feel like there is an opening for a round-the-grounds DeargZĂłn on TG4 at the weekends to try and keep fellas away from the soccer, rubby and -god forbid - Yank football during September.
A town the size of Naas should certainly have at least 2 GAA clubs
TBH its not like Naas has been a superpower for decades, but agreed now for sure. I merely chuckle when I see Portlaoise still with technically only one club.
