Boil the water first. Then add it. Don’t use the pot to boil the water.
That’s the problem right there
That’s what I use for my breakfast coffee. They are grand yokes.
Same combo as myself. The velo stuff is really nice.
It aint bad … Am i pre boiling the water or what? @glenshane fired a few shots there … I’m very uncertain.
I wouldn’t, but I only ever made enough for one at a time out of the moka and it boils in no time, you’d fare slightly better with an espresso grind, the velo is really for a french press but that’s only splitting hairs
Noted.
I put a mix of boiling (80%) and cold (20%) in the pot. Then I’ll throw the pot on the hob at just below full heat and wait to hear the gurgling.
That really dear coffee, how quick does it become stale enough to notice a difference?
You could save money and time by just not quite boiling the kettle mate.
Stop fucking with my little ritual.
You’d have longer on the paddle board.
Dingle Bean (Columbia) is my favourite coffee at the moment.
Don’t you worry buddy. Between yourself and myself it would be better if the water never quite reached boiling point and you certainly Don want boiling water coming into contact with your coffee. The advantage of the French press and aeropress yokes is that you can stop hearing before it bubbles. HOWEVER boiling water is necessary to produce steam and pressure which is required to force water from one moka chamber to another…but the water should have sufficiently cooled by a few degrees by the time it hits the ground coffee…so it ain’t all bad. A proper espresso machine has a heavy lump of a brass group head and portafilter to act as a heating…ie it absorbs a little heat before the extraction starts. There’s literally mi advantage in boiling the water before hand other than speed…but an 'almost boiling wouldbdo the same job without spoiling your water
Moka pots are such an elegant little design that you can’t really fault them. So carry on
This is the spoofer/coffee thread after all
Pretty quick. It should be stored in the freezer and it’ll keep much better.
Quite difficult to close the pot tight enough if you have boiling water in the bottom. You’ll need a tea towel handy.
I use the Velo from Aldi or the Colombian from Lidl. If I’m down in Ardkeen I’ll buy stuff they have called blue mountain, but they all taste more or less the same to be honest.
Sprinkle the tiniest bit of salt in your coffee.
Boil the water beforehand or or you’ll be cooking your coffee in it.
Tfk is built on splitting hairs !
@caulifloweredneanderthal I got a lovely cup of coffee from Ponaire in Newport last weekend. We’d travelled that way specifically to visit the cafe, but they are still closed for seating so we had to make do with take away. Got a bag for home as well, very reasonably priced compared to most other Irish roasterys.
Ponaire has the best coffee around.
A big loss when they moved from annacotty to newport
