How many of the people voting on these things today will have played the game to any kind of a reasonable level out of interest?
More important is the reality that the average voter age is 60+
Am delighted with the moving of the all Ireland finals. The championships drag on too long and the club championships deserve to be played in slightly better weather conditions.
Thatâs kinda the point I was getting to. The people voting on stuff are those most removed from those who itâll impact. Complete madness.
What the WTF? How does moving the AI Finals to August (which I am totally for, clearing September potentially for club finals makes them a lot more attractive proposition) and starting this whole Super 8 craic actually work in tandem.
I havenât paid much attention to the Super 8 thing but it seems bizarre.
The season starts in April now
I wouldnât be completely up to speed with the workings of congress but would the delegates voting today not just be carrying out the vote based on the results of a vote at their own county level?
So one would think.
There isnât actually any need for the CPA. If the players bothered their hole sorting the thing out through their clubs. But no-one has ever thought of that.
Oh right. I really couldnât be arsed loading up a calendar and critiquing this any further (itâs only football) so weâll see how it pans out. Up the Gaaaaa.
Donât bother. I just made it up.
Iâm not too pushed one way or another about the Super 8s but I see via Joe Brollyâs retweets that many county players are seething and saying things like âclub football RIPâ etc etc. I donât think this really makes sense. Sure the All Ireland final will be played in August. Thereâll be no replays other than in provincial and All Ireland finals so the inter-county season will be condensed even with these additional games at the last 8 stage.
You scallywag.
Have you ever gone to a club / county board meeting ? Delegates for those jobs are the last to filled at every agm. Very few actually want to do them.
Some people will just oppose everything unless itâs their own idea.
If the 3 games are played in 15 days then it will have no impact as managers wouldnât be releasing their players anyway.
Go to loads of them pal. The players, along with a few others, run our club. Thereâs a lack of volunteers so itâs borne out of necessity but it also means that there are no disputes between the players and âthe clubâ.
No one wants to go to county board though as itâs full of GAA die hards. It is changing though and will change more.
What part of 2018 is confusing you? For fuck sake.
I was too lazy to scroll up, and the thread title says 2017.
Now stop being so fucking stroppy today you cunt.
Alamein pal. I canât handle the tension.
GAA journalist Pat Nolan also made a valid point on twitter. Duffy published these proposals incorporating Super 8s as far back as last August while the GPA only publicly came out against them last week. They had 6 months to organise themselves and lobby against them, if they felt that strongly about it. But now theyâre complaining about it even though many county boards had already mandated their delegates what way to vote by the time they belatedly decided they werenât acceptable.
CPA, or gpa?
I canât keep up.
