Huge regret for Munster when Thomomd was
Being redeveloped they didn’t play a big game in Killarney or cork

In terms of provincial development (both sporting and support) since about 2000 there’s a decent case that Munster have done the worst job - possibly tied with Ulster. Handed early bandwagon success but rested on the laurels a bit.

Connacht possibly the most impressive considering where they were coming from and the smaller rugby base. A league title for them was a stunning achievement.

Leinster was a bit of a shambles circa 2000 but was a sleeping giant in terms of rugby base and potential audience. They’ve worked it well since but were almost embarrassed into catchup and overtaking the other two.

Connacht Rugby’s average home attendance has shown a general upward trend in recent years:

2011–12 Season: The average attendance was 4,653.

2012–13 Season: This increased to 5,154.

2019–20 Season: The average attendance further rose to 5,950, with the highest recorded at 8,129.

2021–22 Season: The average attendance was 5,018, with a peak of 9,875.

2022–23 Season: The average attendance increased to 5,504, with the highest at 7,512.

These figures indicate a positive trend in Connacht Rugby’s home game attendances over the past decade.

A play about this?

You hate Munster so much it’s tremendous.

Yourself and Tim are desperate to split the three provinces for fear of rising up v Leinster and the irfu.,

The battle for the irfu will be won and lost on TFK

Nah. Often a very admirable team that pull out huge performances and the team of the 2000s was massively impressive and had a big hand in driving Irish rugby to where it is now. Thomond Park for a big game is one of the great rugby experiences.

The sense of exceptionalism and entitlement from some of the fans is fairly wearing though along with the constant need to always point the finger out instead of taking responsibility for poor internal decisions.

Great use of “tremendous” in there though. Donal Lenihan would be proud.

There’s nothing internal about Leinster being financially doped and eating the other three provinces.

Is it a Tipp connection for Michael Lynagh? A cousin or nephew played county hurling in the last 10 years?

is 'Wegian new Galway slang for “cunt” @maroonandwhite

There is in that Munster wasted the 2000s in terms of developing players to replace the great team. Ignoring Leinster - what they developed after POM and Murray came through - was very average.

If they got that right then they have more central contracts and probably more trophies. It’s really not that complicated.

This was all within their control. It seems to be back on track now thankfully which is good both for Munster and Ireland.

Earls, zebo, Murray and Pom were very good players. That’s exactly what Munster can produce when compared with Leinster investment.

Somewhere between 3 to 5 of the Irish 23 depending on form and injuries.

I’d agree - they were all super players.

Were all their Munster debuts in the 2000s though ?

Until the latest crop of Casey, Crowley, Ahern etc there seems to be a huge gap in terms of high-quality players. I find it very hard to believe that the raw talent just dried up for a decade - particularly for a cohort that would have been inspired by the great Munster team. The supply line should have been overflowing.

Nash and Casey would have plenty of caps for the last five years if it wasn’t for Leinster bringing in the likes of Lowe and Gibson park.

In fact if you took project players out it Munster would be consistently making up 3 out of 4 of the Irish half backs for the last few years which doesn’t say much for Leinster.

Daly and Nash would have a lot more Irish caps if Hansen and low were not brought in.

It’s a bit of myth Munster aren’t producing players. They just aren’t producing elite players which is hard to do for any team.

For a start Lowe plays left wing and Calvin Nash plays right.

Casey has got and will get lots of caps. You’re making my point for me though - big age gap between the likes of Earls and Nash or Murray and Casey.

Leinster haven’t produced a scrum half of note for twenty odd years.

Munster have produced stringer, reddan, Murray and Casey.

Easy throw stones.

Tomas o Leary as well

He was incredible.player. was playing senior schools rugby at 10 as a first year. Also senior cricket team. Think he was dux in his senior year too so super smart to boot.

His wife is Italian and kid born in england so had pick of natins and went with italy.

His cousin was in my class in secondary school over there. Not the worst of them.
