He had a great game yesterday, poor overall in the tournament though. We were robbed by the ref twice
Argentina were the better team. Dani Alves is still absolutely phenomenal though. I hope Messi stays on for next year because that’s the best they’ve played in an awful long time
Its lucky he’s got so many apologists for him, it seems to happen quite often with Argentina.
Upstaged by a teammate who is a squad player at Inter.
At least you have found a new scapegoat in Juan Foyth.

He definitely wasn’t last night
Should we blame Messi for Foyth’s incompetence instead?
Messi is about 7 years past his best. A pity he had a cokehead as Argentina manager in his prime
Surprised to hear the great Leo Messi’s prime only lasted 18 months.
Should we overlook at how Messi consistently fails to perform to the minimum expected level of a player of his standing with his country?
3/4 years. He’s been the best player every year since then too but not as good as he was back then
Yet you blame Diego for his failure when in his “prime”.
Yes I blame the cokehead for wasting some of his best years for Argentina
Messi reminds me a bit of Tom Dempsey. Absolutely electric and unplayable at club level for Buffers Alley in the 1980s and into the 1990s and won the AI club in 1989 (Tom, not Messi), but often failed to deliver for Wexford on big championship days for many years. Of course, Tom ultimately proved his doubters wrong and scored the crucial goal in the 1996 AIF victory over Limerick. I’m just not sure Messi is capable of producing the goods for Argentina in the 2022 World Cup before he retires, the way Tom did for Wexford.

“Some” of his best years. The only other tournament in Messi’s prime was the 2011 Copa America where they got knocked out by the eventual winners on penalties after Messi had set a goal up for Higuain
I just find it strange you blame Diego for his failure. Another scapegoat, you can’t have too many of them for Leo I guess.
It’s pointless arguing with lads who think it’s still the 80s and one man can win games on his own because the other team has no tactics
You’re not arguing, you’re apologising.
Look at what his South American counterparts like Sanchez and Suarez have done with their countries.

Suarez missed a pelanty the other night to send his team home in a game they were massive favourites for. His most notable Uruguay contributions in World Cups are a handball and a bite. He won a Copa America in 2011 in which he was excellent but the semi and final were against Peru and Paraguay and hasn’t done much in later stages of tournaments since
Sanchez does well for Chile but I wouldn’t say better than Messi for Argentina unless you count lottery wins in finals in which Messi also scored his penalties
