Totti was Italyâs best player in that tournament.
Di Maria and Mascherano were Argentinaâs best player in that tournament.

Di Maria missed the semi and final
ah look this has been a bit of craic and all that but youâre taking the piss now
seems missing games and tournaments is the secret to being rated
Youâre a mad bastard reading your arguments
Anyone questioning CR7 & Messi needs a chat with themselves.
But I presume youâre just rising dust for the craic.
I know that. Once Di Mariaâs tournament finished Argentina failed to score for the remainder of the tournament.
so not playing in the big moments makes him a great tournament player, got it, ok. Like Totti, ok, got it.
Anyone defending their poor record at international level need to have a word with themselves.
CR7âs isnât great but itâs a damn sight better than Messiâs all the same.
Messi is a bit of a one trick pony. Good at Barca, not developed enough or enough of a personality to do it outside of his preferences.
International football is simply about making the most of what you have and Messi canât adjust.
You seem to be confused to what youâre arguing now. Di Maria did it while he was available, without him Argentina forgot how to score, without him against Brazil, the same fate would have awaited. He is the hero of Argentina.
Totti has done it at 2 of the 4 major international tournaments he played in. Messis has not done it in any of the 10 heâs played in.
Itâs some trick.
Not with Argentina.
Sure heâs just after winning the Copa America in Brazils home patch. POTT, Top scorer & Most assists.
What more do you want from the man?
The former FC Barcelona captain has been directly involved in nine out of the 11 goals La Albiceleste has scored so far in the tournament. Out of the four goals he scored, two came from free-kicks. He also appeared in his 150th international match for Argentina in the semifinal against Colombia on Wednesday morning.
9 out of the 11 goals, directly involved in them there in his last major tournament
And they scored a solitary goal in the semi final and final. Guess who? Di Maria.
And Messi was not involved at the business end, yet again.
Never scored a competitive goal against a top team in a competitive game. Why does he struggle so much at the business end? Why is it always Di Maria who has to carry his nation on his back?
with a midfield of Lo Celso who canât get a game at Spurs and two other hams and NIcolas Otamendi at the back and absolute liability.
What a man
Itâs grand when itâs Bolivia and Ecuador but when the cream rose, Messi dropped and Di Maria took over.
Would Messi get on Italyâs team?
Who assisted Di Maria in the semi final? Who set up the goal?
He would.
De Paul.
that was the final. Actually Di Maria didnât score in the semi - it was Martinez, fantastically set up by Leo Messi - he created a rake more chances in that game too
But creating chances doesnât count for Messi, only for Totti, Messi is so good he is held to a different standard apparently
You asked who set up Di Maria, I told you it was De Paul. Once again when the crunch comes, Messi is nowhere and itâs the old dog for the hard road in Angel Di Maria.
You seem to hold a very low bar for Messi. I would tend to say 10 international tournaments where a guy who is meant to be the best in the world and hasnât even been the best in his own team draws some serious questions marks.
A guy like Totti who only had an 8 year international career in effect was able to shine in two World Cups. Messi has not shone in any. Why is that?
