Good coaching and its driven by the players over the years as well as successful football mad clubs and above anyone else, John Fintan Daly.

I’d say the board and clubs would get behind the hurlers if it was driven on by the players. But alot if the players are in college. In time they may drive it on and seek out some coach to put the time in. The coach needs to be persuasive and likeable and a good man manager.

not accurate

people have made attempts but the budgets available to support the teams are fundamentally different. Thats coming from a man who is heavily involved and is both football and hurling

It’s very accurate. You get someone like JFD to drive it and the money will come in. The will has to be there from a number of people. The footballers get well looked after because they have the right people involved who over te years have built up the relationships to push sponsorship etc. the big clubs like Kiskeam and Newmarket are very supportive of Duhallow as well and this is a key part.

A big part of it is the sponsorship that nobody see’s. meals after training free from hotels etc.

Meals after club training sessions? Well la di fuckin da.

This is a divisional team, some guys may hav to drive an hour to training or a game. Also it’s kinda an added training/game many could do without. Feeding them is a minimum

Lads working in different counties and cities travel to training from all over the country mid week and don’t get or expect a meal. This is not the norm.

So what, it should be.

There’s a recession out there caoimhaoin, let them eat cake.

We were getting soup and sandwiches for 2 years during pre season. It makes a massive difference. Lads hang around longer and really appreciate the food. In the real bad weather it’s brilliant.

Meals are another thing if course. But I’m talking about a representative team, alot of people take alot of pride in it and want to look after the players. It is a pretty big commitment

Midleton CBS qualified for the Rice Cup final for the third year in succession, defeating ASL by two points this afternoon.

Who are they playing Fenway.

Dont know, but all the big guns were on their side of the draw, namely ASL and Thurles. They won the De La Salle tournament recently which would have contained all the best teams at that age group such as Kilkenny CBS, Flannans, Thurles, DLS, Blackwater etc.

They had beaten ASL in said tournament (20mins a half) by 3-5 to 1-7. Good result today as they were missing their keeper and corner back through injury. They have serious forwards.

Cheers. Keep me updated if you can, would be great to know the panel as well.

Playing winners of Thurles CBS and Kilkenny CBS week of May 20th. The latter pair are not due to meet till week after next. Midleton were down a midfielder today aswell. Thurles CBS would be fancied to come through from other half. Midleton drew with them in group stages of DLS tournament.

Midleton CBS won back to back Rice Cups in '82 and '83. Those teams formed backbone of first winning Harty Cup team in '88.

Cheers Fenway. If you could find out the lads from my own club involved and PM me that would be incredible.

In other news, Waterford hammered Clare tonight. Not overly surprised, Cork missed a lot of goal chances and hit a load of wides when we played Clare. Think we play Waterford at home two months from now. Stephen Bennett should be back to full fitness as well by then. Unfortunately Cork have a load of injury worries, mainly dual lads.

Aye Tan - Duhallow would have a serious hurling team if they could put their best 15 out. Most of the lads you mention played with either CIT or UCC rather than Duhallow the last few years. I think Duhallow have one or two others as well that are lesser known than the lads you mention but played cork under 21 Fitzgibbon etc.

waterford are not as good as they were made look by an abject calre performance but they were very impressive.
The physical advantage cork enjoyed over clare won`t be there against waterford so on that basis i would fancy waterford to win that game as they have better hurlers

Interesting TAN, over on Clare Hurlers you were less diplomatic and said Waterford would hammer the shit out of us.
