Cork GAA 2014

This is a very special group of Clare players. Cork better get used to being on the receving end of more crushing defeats at their hands

Milford I think. Albeit loads of girls play with them from elsewhere

Aidan Walsh is a great option to have.If we put him in the half forward line then we can move Pa Cronin to the midfield or full forward. If we play him in midfield then we can put Lorchan McLoughlin into the half back line.As for the footballers there’s a lot of good players for Cubby to work with.He hired some good selectors but he was the coach this year and Ronan McCarthy was one of Conor Counihans main advisors on the sideline.Ronan McCarthy has been appointed as coach with Brian Cuthbert helping him out.We will have two people that were associated with this years disaster involved with the coaching of the team next year. That would be a worry.

You only announced that you were a Clare fan after they won the all ireland.Just fuck off you glory hunting prick!

Go on…

There’s nothing to it Few of the Cork ladies footballers who play football for other completely unrelated clubs play for Milford coz no camogie in own club

My Old told me he was unbelievable in some game just after the football loss to Dublin.

Don’t mind cranks like Tan. He is only worried about the affect Walsh will have. Tan has no concept of context either.

I like Fenway would like to see him at half back for a while.

I actually think the dual role “might” be do-able short term after you are fully developed. My views in it may seem contradictory, but if a guy wants to absolutely excel at a sport he needs to concentrate on that sport 100% from around 16/17-21/22. That’s where the dual issue is actually is most interfering. And again probably at 27-30 range as the players fatigue levels raise and maybe family life and work commitments etc increases. But even at that it’s only possibly successful with complete co-operation between coaches and somebody watching and testing him all the time. A physion/S&C coach/fitness person tracking his fatigue all the way as well. He needs a ling off-season this winter and then a very heavy pre-season. He is going to have to work incredibly hard pre-season to build a level of fitness that will allow him to rest and recovery a lot in height of season. I would suggest he doesn’t play any of the first 2-3 league games in football and is allowed prepare properly.

It’s a lot of people being sensible, reasonable and fair. You would have tha confidence in the people involved though. I don’t think Cadogan got that from the hurling people in the past. JBM & Cutbert would be very on the ball though.

I presume an easy enough outing expected for Midleton v a v limited Sixmilebridge side?

BRIAN CUTHBERT has added Ainle Ó Cairealláin to his Cork senior football backroom team as strength and conditioning coach.
While Cuthbert continues to set the wheels in motion for the 2014 season Ó Cairealláin’s inclusion is an interesting one given his growing reputation on Leeside.
Ó Cairealláin has previously acquired high-quality experience in such a role having spent a year with Adelaide Crows in the AFL.
Ó Cairealláin is a Belfast native but currently resides in Cork having recently opened up a new gym in Donnybrook, Douglas. Furthermore, the Antrim man has featured with his native county on the inter-county hurling scene and presently operates with Na Piarsaigh on Leeside.
He has a Masters Degree in Sports Science from University of Limerick and Cuthbert has said he is delighted Ó Cairealláin has joined his managerial set-up.
“Ainle is a hugely driven person and I am sure his enthusiasm for progress will be an invaluable asset to us next season,” Cuthbert said. “Ainle is a very interesting character and, like myself, Ronan, Ciarán, Owen and Don, is extremely ambitious.
“He has the experience of playing himself at inter-county level and Ainle is committed to helping us drive the team forward, to facilitate its development.
“We look forward to working with him on the management team. Thankfully, those at the Mardyke Arena will also be doing match analysis for us and we are extremely grateful to them for their contribution.”

Im delighted that Ray Carey is back and it’s great to see John Hayes being given another crack at it.The new strength and conditioning trainer also seems to have the right credentials. With everyone fit and available our starting 15 is good enough and there is still strong enough depth to our forwards even without Ciaran Sheehan. However we can’t afford to have any injuries or suspensions in the backs. Our best midfielder will also be spending time with the hurlers and Alan O’Connor is not good enough to be used as a starter anymore. The squad depth in the backs and midfield has taken a serious hit.We need to get some more options in for the backs.

That’s surely a different JohnHayes no?

Cork are suddenly an average sized team. As I mentioned before, buckets of forward talent, thin enough at the back.

No it’s the John Hayes that was on the panel before.Im glad he’s been given another chance.

The rugby player?

Cool. Brilliant player, must have had a good club championship. Signs of what Cutbert is looking for. Although Andrew O Sullivan still being there is questionable. Someone like Micael O Laoire might be worth a shot. Sullivan had his shot.

No harm to get someone new. New ideas and all that. His experience in AFL will have him well versed in recovery and game day prep. The other lads like Aidan O Connell did a super job the last few years, Cork were a physical force. They also had a great injury record, always a good sign of a good S&C coach IMO. The major injuries to O Neill and Sheehan were caused when young IMO.

Alan O Connor announces his retirement now too. In fairness you have to admire the dignity and grace with which these lads have put themselves out to pasture, in contrast to some of their Hurling counterparts, who had to be forced into retirement and proceeded to snipe bitterly in the media afterwards. I also think that maybe these footballers didn’t get the credit and support they deserved for some great service to the county jersey, again In contrast to the Hurlers who receive a whole other level of adulation altogether.

Dignity is not a word you would associate with the likes of halpin or gardnier. Halpin washing his dirty laundry in public at every opportunity
