Most of Douglas catchment area is relatively affordable, most people haven’t bought their houses in the last few years, Grange and Donnybrook are the two largest areas, both working class areas, as Iis the back village, don’t be fooled by the Rochestown road, that was never considered Douglas after the hotel

Working class my rocks

375k for a 5 bed semi isnt working class pal

What’s very working class ?

Lolz.

All the kids up here (beyond the hotel) are Douglas for the most part. There’s scores of houses gone in from Maryborough up to Rochestown that is now by far the biggest catchment area. The kids turning up on Saturdays are all dropped off by latte sippers in SUVs.

I assume you’ve picked the most expensive house on Donnybrook, a 5 bed no less.
Most houses in Donnybrook or Grange would be much more affordable

There is a 3 bed for 325k

Minimum 250k for a 3 bed.

285k for a 3 bed in grange park.

Not. Working. Class

He’s gone 20 year, he has no idea. The whole area has been gentrified.

25000 new people sure??

Look, I know hundreds of people from Douglas, all parts, Rochestown is a middle class area, most of the rest isn’t.
Houses all over the city are gone an awful price, I heard of somebody paying over 350k for a place on Redemption road.

Anyway look, I’m out the gap here

What’s very working class ?

You can put areas in boxes all you want but im telling you straight that the vast majority of kids playing with Douglas are middle class in every which way you want to define it.

The affluence around douglas hall fc and douglas golf club is unreal

You’re probably right, I’m not down there on a Saturday morning, so I apologise if you felt that I was pretending to have sone knowledge of who’s going there. traditionally (in my day)they’d have drawn from the village and Grange/Donnybrook, nobody from Maryborough estate etc played gah,
My point stands though, Douglas isn’t nearly as posh as people outside Cork imagine it to be, Grange and Donnybrook are certainly working class by modern standards

An INTERNETTING masterclass from Esteban and Tom someone pick Trackie off the floor

That’s all fair enough.

What an odd interjection

Huge wealth in Douglas.

sorry now, but what are modern standards for working class? you might not answer seeing as how you won’t say what you think very working class is.

I’d say there aren’t any very working class areas at all in Cork. Parts of certain areas are very working class, like Mayfield and Knocka but their proximity to the City and the lack of places in Cork City mean professionals are buying the houses in these areas. Parts of the Southside would be too and there are obviosly some working class areas. I’d say by any standards there is no part of douglas you could call very working class or even working class by modern standards

Well if the idea of a working class area no longer exists it’s not a conversation worth having.

I don’t have any dictionary definition to hand,
I would say

Upper middle class
Middle Class
Working class
Deprived

As 4 broad definitions of how o would describe an area, in a working class area like Grange many or most people (I need to generalise) would get up in the morning and do a days work, they wouldn’t be loaded but they can get by

You want me to define something that is extremely loose, I’m gone a long time but I spent a lot of time in those areas

Either is he ffs :joy::joy::joy:
