Cork GAA - They're going home! - sponsored by Sports Direct and Super Valu

You’re right, you’re out of Cork a long while. The Glen are a horrifically poor run club.

Poor run = Horrible cunts?

You said great club, they’re not. There in a bad way and have been with a long while. The counties they won a while back papered over the cracks. As far as cunts, I’d know of a few lads who’ve played/play for them and they’re fine but there’s some poisonous fuckers behind the scenes. But they exist in every club. Might be the making of the club in the long run. Weed out the fuckers and finally take the weight off Hoggie’s back and rebuild.

What are the demographics like up there? Is there an aging population? You see some clubs fortunes change rapid with new housing developments and people moving into an area.

Id say you couldnt be more wrong. They’re constantly there or there abouts at underage contesting in Premier 1 against sides with far bigger picks.Id say the loss the North Mon is killing them as they regularily produce strong minor sides but find it v hard to translate into county minors and senior club players.

Is there a better supported urban club? There was a massive crowd in Fermoy and about 80% Glen

Disappointing to see any club like the glen go down. Kanturk would be in the mix for this if they had a freetaker

Played them in a challenge match one sunny Sunday morning down there a few years ago.

Seemed a grand club and looked after us by bringing us up the club bar afterwards for sandwiches. Tomas Mulcahy was drinking pints and it only about midday. Looked a good community club.

Theres a good few new housing developments in Blackpool. A large apartment complex near the overpass, a new one due to open near where the covid test centre was and a massive housing development on the delaneys land towards dublin hill planned.

Surely well over 2,000? Bigger crowd than most Limerick Senior county finals.

Doesn’t mean much if you can’t deal with losing a huge amount of lads between 13 and 18.

Glad to hear it, I’d have great time for the Glen,
Their great successes would be nearly all historical at this stage, they’ve rarely been a dominant force over the last 50 years despite a few counties which makes the glee around their current predicament disappointing, particularly outside the county

That’s a fair point i was obly responding to the demographic question but thats a different debate

You’d expect the city clubs to be bringing in a few more non-Irish born players but it isn’t happening - you only see a few lads from non-traditional hurling backgrounds on the rural teams.

Good point, Kilbrittain have a Polish lad full forward who is handy. Grantis the Kanturk goalie was excellent last night. Pulled off a great save with 10 minutes to go

Massive crowd in Fermoy. It was a poor standard game with a lot of wides. Both played with sweepers and both teams main tactic was to lump it over them into the full forward. Glen had nothing really and went down without much of a fight. Horgan was ok but didn’t get enough ball. Their supporters weren’t even angry after it, it was like they knew it was coming.
Will they come straight up? They should but Senior A is a sticky grade to get out of.

One of Blarney or Bride Rovers won’t go up so they will be hard to beat. Not a cert to come back up.

I reckon the Glen will go back up within 2 years. Senior A is tricky as you have a lot of teams of a similar quality and you won’t get much easy off of the likes of Bride Rovers, Cloyne, Newcestown, Courceys etc but Glen have serious hurlers.

Outside of Horgan who is 36 next year who are the serious hurlers?

The two Downey’s. Horgan will be a huge player at that level.

The 2 Downey’s have a lot of improving.
