Schools hurling in Munster is a much more level playing field. There is a huge spread of schools that have won it over the past 15/20 years across all 5 counties.
Leinster schools is dominated by the behemoth that is Kierans that have won 80%+ of the finals in that time I’d wager. At this stage Kierans are a problem for KK and Leinster hurling.
Kierans won the 2019 final beating Colaiste Eoin and lost the 2018 and 2020 finals by small margins. I’d say Kieran’s have been in the Leinster final at least 15 times since the turn of the millennium and won 10+
Yeah, was talking to the coach of cbc yesterday. Said the experience of playing in harty final in 2020 stood to their lads. They had a very young team in 2020 with a good few 4th years involved.
On a more positive note, the first years in cbs are said to be the best to have ever come through the school.
Cody still in situ is the bigger problem with KK hurling but I get what you’re saying.
The fact that transport to and from the City is a lot easier means that boys from further a field make their way into SKC. But in my time Eoin Kelly was on our bus coming in from Mullinahone so it’s been happening for years. Shefflin coming in from Ballyhale is another one.
I think Kierans are getting adjoining land and are planning to expand to over 1000 students. This will only make the problem worse. I’m pretty sure only Kierans and CBS are playing in Leinster A these days. A scatter of south lads no doubt in GC. However for hurling to kick on in KK it would be good to have Comer, Callan in the A as well. Would be better in the long run having 70+ lads exposed to that level as opposed to 35+ currently.
Probably one more so for the Kilkenny Gaa thread but Castlecomer seems to be a real underachiever in terms of Kilkenny hurling. It is probably as big a town there is in the county outside of Kilkenny itself yet they don’t seem to produce much
