Id say they ll go after OGrady again
Disagree. 2 years with the right management would see them in the mix. Age profile is OK.
Players are depressed and lack enthusiasm and need leadership.
A dark horse has emerged who could be the answer. The CB options are truly horrific. Frank threw the kitchen sink at JBM to avoid going elsewhere. That says it all.
Unpalatable to too many and would not take it without a lot of assurances that are unlikely to be met.
He would also possibly want Donal Og as his on field general/coach. A lot of people wouldn’t go for that.
Meh,
Think they did a clean sweep or at least contested every final in these underage blitzs not too long ago either, two or three years ago. I’d take it with a pinch of salt. As far as I know no team that has ever won the Arrabawn (Under 16 competition) has ever gone on to win the minor All Ireland 2 years later
Donal Og will be seething.
Cork have a huge number of players. They now have development squads. Players will come through and probably have started to with this year’s minors.
Next year could be hairy though. If Kingston unavailable due to work then God knows who gets it.
You’d think the “acceptable” CCB options are Kingston, Landers, Tomas Mulcahy and Ray Ryan. Anyone else they either won’t let back in or the players will refuse.
Cork have always had a huge amount of players. Its not the issue. Who’ll we get out of this year’s minors bar Kingston and Dalton? Not that we even need another goalie.
Landers won’t get it.
I believe Teege might be available if the money was right
Kingston is a coach. Ryan is a coach, Landers is a coach.
None are managers or at least not yet.
John Myler may be the answer. Done a good job in development squads and is believed to have modernization himself and worked well with S&C and other coaches. Would certainly bring some steel.
Ya but it’s not about winning All Ireland really at Minor. 1 would be nice and would shut people up a bit, however a production line is far more important. And a Minor winning team may be burdened with too much pressure and expantancy might go through the roof.
The fact that they are absolutely hammering most teams has to be somewhat significant.
Of course these are only tournaments. But the fact that the 2nd teams are so dominant shows organisation and thorough searching for players. What’s encouraging is there finally seems to be a proper link to the Minor set ups. The minor hurlers last year and the year coming are working out of the Mardyke arena and that’s a very professional set up.
This year’s minors were good and will produce a few Seniors. I saw the 15’s & 16’s this year. There are 4-5 exceptional players, Conner from Na Piarsaigh is Tony Kelly level of ability.
They are still missing out on players though. Several strong clubs are not buying into the development squads and some players, particularly from the Limerick border area are being lost. That’s across the board.
It’s not a certainty of anything, but it is encouraging.
A lot of people not happy JBM announced retirement the even8ng of this success.
No he won’t.
The major problem is the personality driven approach.
Frank is believed to have promised JBM the sun moon and stars as he knew he would be unbelievably difficult to replace.
A few coaches/managers waiting g for Duirmuid Donovan and Tracy Kennedy to be in total control.
That’s why I think Myler may be the best stop block. He’s tough and doesn’t really care what people think of him.
Frank is now 71, and has been secretary of Cork GAA since 1972. In all seriousness, that is fucking mental.
Are the entire management team gone with JBM?
If not, John Meyler on the same management team as Mark Landers is never going to happen.
Tomas Mulcahy pretty much threw his name in the hat on the Sunday game. He certainly did nothing to dampen down enthusiasm for it and was smirking like a Cheshire cat as Des asked him if he’d be interested.
He’s a fucking eejit and it would be a disaster for Cork.
His face went beetroot red even though he was trying to play it cool. He ended up both saying he wanted the job and saying he didn’t in the space of a few sentences.
Yeah exactly at the start he was making it very clear in a cute hoor kind of way that he’d be well up for it and by the end he probably felt he was coming across too strong (he was) so he ruled himself out.
Ya all 10 selectors gone.
Was not suggesting Landers and Myler, just Myler.
Landers won’t be involved at all I believe.
It will be most likely Mulcahy though, he has a good relationship with Frank and that’s all that matters.
The good thing out of that is Cahalane and Walsh will play football if Cleary gets that job. The hurlers could get embarrassed.
List of JBM medals as a player on Twitter. Seems he won every medal you can as a player except u21 football All Ireland and not sure if he won club minor and 21 hurling. Won everything else - minor, 21, senior, club, county, province in football and hurling
