Waterford must be fair sick of Limerick. I make that 9 wins in a row against them
Haven’t beaten them since 2011 in Championship and even that took a Mullane deflected goal in injury time.
Dessie Hutchinson flicked a ball over Finn’s head and scored one day. He has hardly burned a ball again us since
There’s always going to be frees to the team that is chasing a game they’ve little chance of winning. Take Tipp v Cork last week, once Cork had their lead built up Tipp won the free count easily.
Jamie Barron was unlucky not to get a free at one stage when Waterford were mounting a minor comeback, he was accidentally upended by a limerick going for a ball but Lyon’s waved on. If you’re going to micro analyse every decision then it will be a long day.
The only decision that could actually have really effected the outcome was Byrnes 1st & 3rd fouls which Lyon’s left off.
The level of damage outrage from many of those in Green was as if it was Sean Cleere reffing the game which that was not the case. I know loads of ppl from South & East Limerick that know there stuff, was talking to a few of them on the way back who said the same things I said but there’s a cohort of Limerick supporters who have the hurling IQ levels of a chimpanzee, it’s often the case they come from hurling black spots and begin following the game for the bandwagon element. Every county has them but this was different level.
Tipp and every other team have got to throw if they want to compete, that second goal we scored v Limerick had two or three throws. The key to limericks throws is the triangles coming out of defence, police that and it’s a different sport for everyone.
Waterford had 14 shootable frees. Limerick had six. We have green tinted glasses on, but you need to take off your own tint too
They deserve respect and not to be written off just yet though. They’ve earned that. From their own especially. Tbf plenty of the lads here still believed, whether they said it or not
I’m not going to pay for GAA+ as I attended the game to watch it back but of those 14 frees I’d suggest 6/7 were very long range frees that were “good fouls” in my book as they produce low percentage shots, Waterford never laid a glove on Limerick coming out of defence to get these.
The frees that would have incensed the limericks other than the 1/2 soft ones and those gang tackles.
The main point I’m making is Limerick were very good and as I’ve said we’re winning that game every day of the week. Some of Their supporters in the stand need to realise this, chill the beans and up their hurling IQ.
The shot count is a decent stat but it doesn’t really delve into the quality of the shots.
Of Waterford’s 39 shots but I’d say 6 or 7 of those were very low percentage shots struck off balance or from distance. Proper shot count would be about 32- 38 to Limerick. It was a 6 point hammering.
Everyone sees what they want to see.
All joking and bantering aside of course there are a number of Limerick supporters who have no idea and are new found supporters I have said this many times. That said I was sat next to a very knowledgeable Mount Sion clubman yesterday evening, had great chats and his general feeling was Colm Lyons is keeping us in this. I felt we were slightly the wrong side of his decisions. He was raging at a few Waterford lads around us calling throws on clear handpasses and fair challenges, said thats the soccer crowd.
Limerick were very good yesterday and ij was great to see a marked upturn from a number of lads. Tipp supporters saying they were great while sniping about throws and chimpanzee like supporters isn’t great.
All matches on gaa + are free to watch back two days after the event by the by
Jesus, the Tippos have been driven pure simple. They “have to throw it”, presumably because they can’t hurl properly, but the Limericks should be policed from forming triangles.
And it’s only the May weekend.
They’ll be gone before the June weekend
Notable that the Corkies, knowledgeable hurling men that they are, are largely keeping their powder dry. They get it.
Largely!
'Tis only the phony war at the minute, kid.
Except for the Tipp lads, this is serious business for them
Withdraw that, you whelp. I won’t have a word said against TDB.
Hope he’s alright after that, though…
Looks like Will caught him in the funny bone.
