Mr.Consistency.
Brian Gavin robbed him of the greatest AI winner of all time
The true connoisseurs of the game appreciate Horgan as one of the greats.
Thatās all that matters.
Horgan was a fine player and had some unbelievable moments that Iāve already acknowledged. But letās be honest. He was largely a sunshine player and stat padder. If the chips were down and you had your pick of players to bring in, heād be one of the last youād consider⦠and thatās a truth most would acknowledge.
As I was saying.
Heās a beautiful hurler aesthetically. Hell of a player, technically perfect, a top player but I think heās a little way off TJ, Canning, Callanan. Just a little way. Probably not quite the strength/athleticism of those 3.
Nobody better to watch though.
Fuck him and fuck Cork.
21 years losing and thatās all that anyone really cares about.
As a lad in the far right Limerick telegram group said.

Youāre dead rightā¦the usual suspects trying to make it all about themselves
A top 20 of all-time would be an interesting list. Perhaps one for Martin Breheny over the long close season.
In fairness to Hoggie, he was one of the best freetakers of his generation and he deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Pauric Mahony and Paul Codd.
Dirty one
Of the last 25 years, it would be very tight for him for top 15-20 forwards even, its deep. Likes of Ben OāConnor himself would have a say, then youāve guys like Bubbles. Then your Richie Hogan types who were as good as any but often injured. Aaron Gillane and Eoin Lakin types, less flashy but so effective, big game players and bags of medals.
Dry your eyes mate
I think the missed frees in the last two all Irelands will always be held against him. If he retired five years ago he might actually be rated higher.
Henry Shefflin, DJ, Joe Canning and TK were all better than him anyway in my opinion. As good as he was, it would be underwhelming to think that Horgan is the best Cork hurler since Ring. For a county of their tradition and prestige they donāt have quite the same level of Hall of Famer forwards in the last 30 years as their contemporaries Kilkenny and Tipp. The likes of Ray Cummins and JBM were well before my time. Joe Deane and Ben Oā Connor were good but not in the same league as the 4 mentioned in the first sentence. Brian Corcoran only moved there in his Indian summer. Setanta was the one but alas.
Yes sorry about that. Apologies to Paul Codd who actually has an All Ireland winners medal.
Unfortunately he canāt be mentioned in the same breath as those lads you mentioned who have the medals to back it up, thatās just the way it is,
But he was undoubtedly a great hurler, probably only behind Corcoran in my lifetime though thereās plenty of competition.
Iād say he loves hurling and heās always seemed at ease with his misfortune not to get the ultimate prize.
The missed free at the start of the second half of this years All Ireland must be one of the greatest momentum changers in sport.
