5 All Stars compared to Hoggieās 4 ![]()
Great article. Classic TFK begrudgery on display tonight trying to belittle a giant of the game. His contribution to Glen Rovers is what seals his legendary status for me. Is it one club championship game he has missed (through injury) in 20 years?
Three days after that 2018 All Ireland Semi Final, my own club played Glen Rovers on the BOICMC in Ballylooby of all places cc @StoneCold. Hoggy was there togged out and ready to go before most lads had even arrived. A testament to his commitment and love for the game.
Hoggie has been a brilliant attacking player but is a level below Shefflin, DJ, Mullane, Callanan, TK, Joe canning, Mullane, Gillane. I think TJ Reid is slightly tainted as his scores from play in big games is questionable overall.
For all his scores there wasnāt many days he really too over bar that QF v KK.
He had a horrendous habit of tapping over points when a clear goal chance was on in the first 14 years of his career, he changed that up tbf to him.
Up there with one of the best hurlers technically in the Bubbles/Paul Flynn mould.
Horgan was up there with Timmy McCarthy
A fine assessment except you omitted Eoin Kelly. 100% re: Reid.![]()
Ya Iād include Kelly in that list obviously ![]()
No begrudgery here. Fantastic player and great servant to cork. Would have loved to have seen him win an all Ireland medal.
But at the same time people are entitled to give their opinion on where he ranks among the greats of the last 25/30 years.
They are of course. Itās notable that it is all the non Cark posters are having the debate though. I didnāt see any Carkie saying he was one of the top 10 hurlers of all time
And then you have a few withered ballbags playing to the gallery
Your tears are delicious
Jeez whatever floats your boatā¦tasting another manās tears is an odd fetish
Heāll be remembered fondly like Ciaran Whelan.
Agree with all that; heās was technically gifted in the Bubbles or Richie Hogan mould, though both of those have put in big performances in All Ireland finals or when the need was greatest. I said the below in the wake of this yearās final and I think it holds true.
Fantastic player. Never drew a dirty belt.
Liked a sly trip when a corner back beat him to a ball!
Good not great player.
It has been mentioned already but had he hung them up a few years ago he would be held in higher regard.
A hard game there in Ballyhooly. Some fine scores.
A good healthy crowd for a Friday evening. Erinās Own should fancy their chances in Senior A next year. Newtown work rate was ferocious all night and they deserved it - much more clinical.
Erins Own will relegate Newtown? Incorrect.
A great crowd with a great venue.
Fair play on the resultā¦hopefully can regroup now and drive it on

Missed their chance last week, Newtown would always win the replay
