John Carroll destroyed us from wing forward around then. Gave Foley an awful mugging off. Foley kept trying to out catch him.
The footballers would break your heart, I was there the day they tonked them in Cork though. Gavin supreme from the frees and Diarmuid Sheehy beat Corkery up a stick. Pissed rain the same day.
2001 was the Rocks big score where he mangled Jack Foley on the way out? A great day indeed.
The James Butler goal that day is one of my all time favourite Limerick goals. Was right behind it on the uncovered stand side, perfect position as he buried it. Flew on to it and stuck it past Cusack, think it hit the back stanchion and came back out. Clare had given us an awful trimming in a league game in the Gaelic Grounds a few weeks before I think.
From the article above Iâm not sure where they are getting the view that âLimerick are getting cold feetâ about going to Cork. Have not seen anyone publicly saying weâve an issue going down there. Mann said as much in the Cork Examiner yesterday - if itâs fixed for Cork weâve no issue with it whatsoever. Could be the Examiner stirring it again.
Itâs a joke that a decision wonât be taken until early next week. There should have been an audit of every ground at the start of the year with a safety cert issued stating the capacity for every ground. Would have avoided this unseemly mess. Typical GAA, no forward planning.
Weâve not been down there too often in the last 10/15 years. 2001 was fantastic though, we were no-hopers going there and beat them against all the odds. Brilliant Eamonn Cregan on pitch interview after the game slating the Cork Examiner for writing us off. Beat Waterford down there the next day in another cracker.
It was great for us yee were so cocky. Never saw us comingâŚ

Damien Fitzhenry - :(. As soon as he made his way up the field you knew it was going in.
Gutted coming home after that. Wadding disallowed a goal for us at a crucial stage, pulled it back for a free-in which we pointed instead.

Cork are circling the wagons using their main media outlet. In fairness to Cork, they have to do what they can to appease any number of people.
The fact that theyâre running mouthing about Limerick to De Paper is a surefire indication that they know PUC is fucked and that the game will be in Thurles.
Limerick need to be very careful here. The pitch thing is a complete ruse.
Limerick need to hugely raise the awareness re soft frees and proper refereeing. If Cork donât get an amount of scoreable frees there is a huge possibility Limerick will cause a huge upset here. You could see from the last day how pumped Cork were each time the simulations worked and the free count mounted. Horgan will hit them all. Despite their dominance the last day, 3 of Corks starting forward failed to score (Cronin, Cooper, Horgan), they had similar issue last year. Clare easily outscored them from play despite performing poorly and Corks % score from play remains poor.
It raises and interesting dilemma, do Limerick highlight this before the game (thatâs what Cody would do and I would tend to do myself) or do they wait until the day and hope the furore from Sunday will be taken on board? Limericks style is robust but fair, but I can guarantee you corks approach will be heavily based on drawing frees from it.Limerick need to have a plan hereâŚ
The other interesting point is MF. Walsh has 6 weeks uninterrupted hurling with in the run into the clare game. Before he plays v Limerick he will have played football v Tip and a munster football final v Kerry? Its only then you can decide if the dual player approach works. I suspect Ryan wont be as accommodating as Pat Donnellan as he has a similar physique and a much greater physical presence and Walsh will have an interrupted prep this time
If Cahalane plays 3 (I would doubt Cork will chance it), Limerick have huge possibilities to exploit the obvious weakness @ 1-3 with Downes and Dowling. Clare targeted this this (running game) last Sept and the evidence would suggest its still a huge issue for Cork albeit it targeted differently
I think i need to try and adapt more of an inferiority complex here.If it was Tipp maybe iâd be more prepared for disappointment but little Limerick the land of Unlimited Heartbreak? So instead of expecting a 10 point win iâll try and expect a 1 point win instead!Even if Limerick win they wonât win the all ireland anyway.
Still though at least the Cork ladâs have their all ireland medals. That Limerick team had more than enough chances to win a munster title. If they were good enough then they would have done it.
Thereâs talk about the frees the last day.Im not concerned how Cork get the scores so long as they get them.We pressurised the Clare defence into giving away those frees.Limerick will turn this game into a scrap. It will be typical Limerick brute force and brawn.I hope we have the toughness to withstand that because if we do our hurling will do the rest.I would be worried about the full back line though.Clare caused a bit of havoc with the high balls the last day.We have the forwards to damage Limerick but im still a bit unconvinced about the defence.
On the flip side of that i think the Limerick full back line can be a bit kamikaze at times and dare i say i think Richie McCarthy is slightly overrated!
