No one cares about it anymore. Certainly not in London. Every park and common will be heaving today in the sun.
Even the guards couldn’t give a toss about this any more.
There was a need to destroy horse racing
Great post.
As regards hair dressers in Germany though, I think that’s the exact sort of thinking that we need more of in this country. There are a lot of areas, including schools, where creative micromanaged solutions could be found to significantly reduce the harshness of the lockdown.
It comes down to viability. It may be viable to do so for some salons/barbers in big cities. The nature of the restrictions will naturally mean less heads per hour, plus the added cost per head etc. Added cost and less throughput doesn’t = profit unless the cost is offset to the consumer.
Opening things back up isn’t just a matter of tearing into it. It’s going to be incredibly difficult
Its mostly people in their 80’s with underlying issues that are dying. Open it up to fuck and get it into the community so we can achieve herd immunity and get on with our bloody lives.
You’re advocating killing off all the old and/or sick people?
Why should the young have their life denied them? A bad cold or bug would kill those frail people. We can’t hide behind this thing for forever. We’ve done our bit… protect the vulnerable and let people live. Anyone that wants to stay locked away could do it easily enough.
We live in a society.
Old people have people that care for them and their life would be on hold too.
It needs to be managed carefully so all of society can come out of it safely
To rush it and end up back at square one would be absolutely devastating for everyone and everything.
It’s a big price we’re being asked to pay and those saying it’s all been for nothing and we could have done it without lockdown, we’ve wasted our time and parts of our lives for nothing are the absolute dregs of society, in my opinion. Demeaning any sense of value people might have for being asked to stop their lives for 3 months. What will that do for peoples mental health, the very argument they are using against lockdown
Uber cunts
Yeah, start with the young and work your way up… People are out but they’re still being careful. Anyone sick is staying away from people and we’re washing hands and keeping distance… I’d rather die living than hiding away like a rat.
For a socialist you have a remarkably tenuous grasp on what it means to be part of a society
The point remains that doing it without care could see a relapse and reverse of easing. To have to go back into lockdown would be absolutely crippling in every way.
I don’t get the argument here. It’s being opened up with a plan. I disagree with some of it myself but understand the overlying caution being applied.
The 5k/20k things seems absolutely ridiculous to me and I’ve flaunted it recently but remained socially distant at my destination.
Mate are you tapped?
The “large increase in active cases” is because recoveries aren’t regularly reported and they didn’t test widely. Even clocking the testing they did, they passed 20k cases 5 weeks ago. Over 4k have passed away, the current reported total Covid recoveries is less than 5k, accurate?
Why list a stat that common sense tells you makes no sense. Do you think individual Swedes have Covid longer because they kept beer gardens open?
“Large daily cases” means little when they weren’t testing wifey and are clearing backlogs.
The key stats there are ICUs and deaths. The direction is going down. There is some amount of BS written on this, when the media decided that one 7 day period was the most important one to measure a per capita death rate, the reality was they were counting reported deaths rather than the actual deaths on those days. That meant a near 50% over-reporting of deaths. Who cares about facts though when some in the media have this fascination with talking down the Swedish approach?
See below for the media straight up lying on the Swedish approach, he was not about herd immunity
Economically, nobody said there wouldn’t be a hit. Domestic consumption is naturally going to take a hit when you are telling a decent % of the population to stay at home and are practicing social distancing. Sweden are going to mostly suffer though because the entire world is.
The point on elements of the Swedish model is how sustainable it is. There will be huge business and economic costs still, but they give most businesses a shot at keeping going. You talk about the danger of opening up and then closing again. You only actually believe in that approach if you think the virus can be totally suppressed (you claim that you are in the camp of living with it) or a vaccine will come about, otherwise it is pure spoof.
At the moment we have countless businesses being told they won’t even have a shot of reopening for another two months. That’s effectively 6 months of closure. That’s 6 months of rent going unpaid, that is going to exacerbate any economic hit as the losses get wider and who eats them is unclear. Investment confidence is hit, but this is Armageddon stuff for the economy.
In terms of Sweden overall, I think they undertested and they also didn’t protect nursing homes. But as an economic model to try and keep things going with social distancing they are what other countries are striving for and why the WHO said that’s the approach.
You’ve posted this well over a hundred times since this thing started I’d say. Where’s your evidence for this? It is absolutely crippling at the moment. You realise there’s over a million people getting government assistance do you? You realise that our government are just looking at other countries and then adding one do you? You realise that it will never be economically viable for barbers, pubs and restaurants to open with twice the cost and a quarter of the footfall. You realise that we can’t just bail out whole sectors of the economy and pay hundreds of thousands of people to sit at home. Cop the fuck on and pull your head out of your fucking arse.
If anyone says the new normal to me this weekend they’re getting slapped.
Loving the way you’re following me around, kid. Loving it.
South Korea closed schools and parks for 2 weeks after getting 55 cases in a population of 50 odd million, because they couldn’t accurately trace some of the cases.
They’ve been held as the beacon of light in terms of their response to the pandemic.
We had 39 cases yesterday
Genuine question here, what are you on about? Have I replied to you in recent weeks?
I genuinely have zero memory of anything to do with you in a long time, please help me out here, I’m worried that you’ll come around to my house and beat the shit out of me.
If you have me mixed up with somebody else as I have to assume is the situation you might retract that strange post you just made.
@Horsebox, what is this about?
They closed 200 schools in a specific area. Not the whole bloody country
Yeah, Ireland is perfectly set up to deal with this on a regional basis
So let’s stay in this crippling situation because if we try to get to a better place we might end up back in this crippling position. Nothing else matters now. Covid deaths, that’s all that matters. And let’s not question our new overlords even though they have a history of utter ineptitude.
