I wonder where Ireland would be today had there been no lock down or restrictions of any kind imposed by the government here or, even, if we had adopted the Swedish approach? Would there have been more COVID related fatalities than we have had?

I don’t know but I think it’s a great question and certainly something we should have a lengthy debate about.

The new normal. Empty stadiums and racetracks. No atmosphere no nothing. A load of fucking shite. Liverpool winning the league will be a total anti climax. All over this cod. I can’t get my head around lads wanting to stay at home forever staring at the wall.

Sweden have restrictions. If there had been no restrictions of any kind there would be a lot more cases and deaths. You can see that in the US, where states have opened up and some of them have seen a surge in new cases while others haven’t. Basically it comes down to common sense, no big gatherings, sensible social distancing, good hygiene and wearing a mask indoors in crowded areas like grocery stores keeps the level of transmission down, acting the cunt like crowds of young people gathered in parks or beaches, or thousands marching together in the streets leads to more transmission.

The only question really is whether a strict lockdown was necessary, and I would argue it wasn’t in most places except for densely populated urban centers where the virus has already taken hold. The evidence in places that have opened up and people are being sensible is there is no big second spike.

Unlikely for a while yet.

The determination right now is for most countries who locked down to justify that. The media are also obsessed with this and calling out Sweden at every juncture.

We’ll need to see what where the stats lie in 12 months.

This thing is finished. Move on lads.

Just reading the times there and it seems over 100 of last week’s cases relate to March April.

And I still can’t get a hair cut. In a barber’s shop.

Eh? Had we even 100 new cases in total last week?!

There was one day where an extra 22 old cases were added in alright.

@Appendage have you a link to that article?

Dr McConkey on the radio earlier saying how concerned he was with recent numbers in Ireland.

There was only 8 cases today ffs.

close the borders! stay at home! hold the line

There seems to be an unwillingness amongst professors and so called self titled experts to accept that this thing is now yesterday’s news and an even greater reluctance to fade back into relative obscurity. How much of an appearance fee do they get for appearing on RTE discussion panels to peddle more fear.

The numbers just dont back their assertions. There are quite a few counties who have had no case in weeks. You wouldnt know this though from the constant 4 horsemen of the apocalypse speak and second wave TSunami of death claims.
