Coronavirus - Close the Airports

Hold the line. Board the windows. Get under the bed.

There’s no appearance fee money if the virus is gone

I was chatting to a client located in Berlin this morning. She’s off to Copenhagen tomorrow on business. She must have had a right laugh at Paddy trying to talk to her on MS Teams from under the bed with the curtains drawn.

Its grand for those lads who get paid their large salarys every month regardless. They’d have a far different tune if they were running a small or medium sized family business.

Worth mentioning that their attitude is leaving certain older people terrified in Ireland.

RTE have an awful lot to answer for there to. They wound people up who foolishly believe everything that’s put out there, something terrible.

An awful lot of those were the elderly too who live alone etc.

That is certainly something I am seeing first hand. Some old people back home still haven’t gone to a shop for a pint of milk. This fear has now being hardwired into their heads. It is sad to see.

They toed the party line 100%. Never once questioned anything. Acted like a state broadcaster in North Korea would

There isnt a journalist amongst the cunts, more interested in self preservation similar to the scientists.

In fairness to Ivan Yates, he was one of the few on the radio who called it out - obviously not RTE.

Me too. I’ve an uncle that hasn’t stirred since it started. Essentially lost his independence. Very hard thing for a man of his age (70 odd) to get back. Hiding in his house whilst one of us drops the paper and some shopping at his gate.

I’ve an aunt the same in west Limerick. Very tough on elderly people like that.

@myboyblue is your uncle?

That’s the holy all of it.

RTE are living on borrowed time, national broadcasters in general will be a thing of the past in 10-15 years.

Their general content is awful, and their current affairs programs arent much better.

Radio funnily enough seems to have a better chance of survival. Still will be under pressure though.

Claire Byrne, Prime Time, the News bulletins - it has been a constant stream of negativity on RTE throughout this.

Doom and gloom as they peddle even more misery. Fergal Bowers was buzzing at the outset as the deaths mounted up, he has honestly become deflated as the numbers have reduced. Tubridy, Duffy - well they all love a bit of grief at the best of times and have revelled in this.

There hasn’t been one even mildly tough question to Holohan during this whole thing. Just constant fawning and what they - a small cabal of medical people - say is taken as Gospel. Unquestioningly.

Nothing about the scandal of nursing home deaths, the lack of PPE in certain places, the crazy deal for the private hospitals that the tax payer will have to cover.

Not one decent journalist among the lot of them to challenge the status quo. Happy to feed out of the trough, to maintain access they swallow everything they are fed.

Bring back Charlie Bird, all is forgiven.

I feel very sorry for leaving cert students - their futures now are going to be judged at the whim of previous exams and their teachers perceptions of them. Not alone that, they won’t be able to go for a few pints once they turn 18 without paying 9 euro in a pub for some rotten toasted sandwich and have to be out after 90 minutes.

Awful start to adulthood in fairness due to a virus that wouldnt harm them anymore than a bit of flu.

The city west deal as well absolutely fucking scandalous

Freshers week will be some craic this year I’d say.

Hopefully common sense prevails. The mood amongst the general public seems to have at least thankfully.

My own view is that the Leaving Cert should have gone ahead at the end of July. Just needed firm leadership that it was to proceed as planned. Instead McHugh and Harris capitulated.

That decision opened a Pandoras Box of problems. “Well if the exams can’t go ahead then neither can pretty much anything else for months.”

And this whole things about pubs re-opening. Another absolute cod. Do you think rural pubs which barely have a packet of bacon fries are all of a sudden going to start throwing out steak sandwiches? And then turf out customers after exactly 90 minutes? Pie in the sky stuff. It won’t happen.

It’s just crazy what is going on. Wear masks or not? This two metre rule - why not 1.5 metres or 3 metres?

This horrible virus is here to say. More people are going to get it. That is the sad reality.

All people can do is exhibit some personal responsibility and try to minimise the chances of contracting it. Shutting down the economy, plunging it over a cliff, and shattering pretty much every social norm we’ve ever known because some geeky scientific nerds say so is mad. You can’t say that publicly though.

Instead… Hold the line, come together by staying apart, not all heroes wear capes etc etc and all the other scuttery shite they’ve been shovelling out. Gowls.
