Coronavirus - Close the Airports

I’d love to see actual hard and fast comparative examples for the prices of various hotels etc in Ireland and in Spain or Portugal. Irish holidays being really expensive is one of the things everyone believes but how true is it? (Similarly I’d like to see how much a mother with 3 or 4 kids actually gets on welfare and us it more than working. Another thing I’ve never seen actual stats on)

I was in two hotels in Gorey at weddings. The Ashdown and the amber springs. One was nice enough The other was very dated. I can’t remember which was which though

Irish hotels aren’t great value compared to most of Europe. The quality/standard is pretty poor here.

Ashdown would be dated. Amber Springs about 10 years newer

But sure almost every single thing in Ireland is shite compared to other countries according to most of us. The prices of the hotels thing is easy enough to compare though. If I went on the Internet now and tried to book ten days in August in kerry and ten days in the algarve how would it compare I wonder.
(I suppose in the time it took me to type that post I could probably have done it)

I actually think the opposite - most Irish hotels are reasonably new and clean and in good condition.

It’s just they offer very little else for a family holiday other than at best a grubby indoor pool and eating and drinking out as a family in Ireland is expensive.

Irish weather means we lack a stock of good quality self catering resort style accommodation half way between a hotel and a house on its own.

Yes a quick google would suggest you are correct. The Amber Springs was a nice enough venue. The main bar in the hotel itself was a bit shit though.
I just remember the Ashdown as very dark. Dark wood panelling everywhere. A meh enough place now.

They’ve done up the main bar in the Ashdown now so it’s much better. I’d say the rooms could do with an upgrade. The bar in the Amber is soulless enough. It’s more of a family hotel now

Irish Hotels more expensive but defo in better condition than a lot of places on continent…probably because you’ll spend more time inside hotel than you would on continent

Vast majority of hotels in Spain and just concrete walls painted white, with tile floor everywhere and minimum of furniture. But there’s a balcony with some sun so you don’t give a shit

you couldn’t make it up, come September, holidays will be the last thing on Paddys mind when the effect of the his much loved lockdown really starts biting with massive job loses and the onslaught of a depression not since since the 1930’s, they will be begging lads to come from England and Europe to spend a few bob

25% of yesterday’s new cases were linked to international travel and the airports have not even started to reopen properly again.

We’ll be back to square 1 again because of the affluent, aspiratinal fuckwits who can’t do heading to some shithole in Spain or Portugal to drink cheap beer and shit food for one year.

We’ll be riddled again come August

No mention of Leicester being put back into lockdown?

Everyone should go abroad. They’re safer abroad than they are in Ireland.

who cares?

Just like the immigrants !
